Uninstall iLife 11

Sorry, it took me a while to find out how to post a topic here... (there is no header saying I have to click a topic until I accidentally clicked a topic here... Sorry)

OK, Hi, I want to totally remove iLife 11 from my MBP so that I can re-install iLife 09 from my set of disk. Does anyone know how to do that? What kind of trouble will I get into if I do that.

(yes, I will lost all my photos and albums and links to MMe, but I think it is easier for me to start from scratch rather than trying to figure out what's wrong with one album at a time trying to repair that).

But if I were to do it all over again, I rather go back to iPhoto 09 for a more workable work flow and interface. (especially MMe and email).

Please help.

Drag the iPhoto Application to the trash and empty it

reinstall iPhoto - go to your receipts folder ("Your hard drive" ==> library ==> receipts) and remove any iPhoto receipts and reinstall from the restore disks that came with your computer - do a custom install of bundled software only

For more information click here for the MacWorld article on reinstalling OS X applications.

And you can simply restore your last iPhoto '09 library from your backup

Or you can drag your iPhoto '11 library to the desktop and open it and get the originals folder to have those photos available for '09

Hello fellow mac users!

I am hesitant about removing iLife'11. Before I installed it, I created another iphoto library for my old photo which consisted of about 2000 plus photos on 09. After iPhoto'11 had been installed, I discovered that the installation had duplicated all photos 6 times to 13,100 plus using up 25GB.

Would the Gurus here know if there is a fix to this, as I would prefer to keep the original 09 photos with the 'iLife program running, or should I go ahead and uninstall iLife, or is it too complicated and I should live with it?

Thanks for your time.

Thanks Terence

I have just checked again:

iPhoto library = iPhoto'09 it won't load up as it 'requests quit or upgrade'

iPhoto Library_2 = iPhoto '11 version 9.1.1 (527) and contains the 13,132 items.

I followed the DVD installation instructions and read about creating another library on the forum as a tip before I installed it.

I migrated from windows last year and have not had any problems with my mac so far.

Thanks for getting back to me.

My point is that if you imported a library to another Library, then you will get the massive duplication that you describe.

Try Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function on the Library that won't open. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.

Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Thanks Terence

I am following your advice and the files have been reduced to 10,000 plus which iphoto describes as items. I am still working at reducing it further and will go for another library rebuild. In essence, the download you pointed me to, appears to work. I clicked on import all duplicates by chance which I should not have done, so will have to watch out for that.

Thanks again.
