Itunes persistent error -42032

New itunes (10.1.0.56) does not work with Windows XP. Authorizing of computer or purchasing/downloading apps cause "Unknown error occurred (-42032)".

According to other blogs, this error persists for several weeks, with no reaction from Apple. Have you any solutions available?

Cyril

Martyk11: "SC Info" workaround did not work for me 😟 Also flushing DNS one day works next couple day does not. :(((

Anyway, my Windows crashed on weekend again and iTunes works perfectly immediately after re installation!!! Hopefully it will stay like that, if yes the whole PC reinstall will be only one solution.

I tried install VMware and new Windows into before my PC crashed and iTunes works OK! Even when I could not download anything a few seconds earlier from the real PC.

I am sorry to give a false hope 😟
Reinstall MS Windows does not solving this error.

Yesterday (directly after reinstall and 5 hours later) iTunes 10.1.2.17 works perfectly. But today (about 17 hours later) I have the error -42032 again. I can not update any bought app, I can not buy any new, I can not Authorize/Deauthorize my PC (all these actions generate error -42032).

So, I can definitely confirm it is not problem on my PC side. I have talked with my internet provider and there was any change in last half year. Also this error have people around the globe with a lot of different internet providers.

Which leads to the only last problematic point which is iTunes servers itself, they are connected to the Akamai network. So, question is if this is problem on the Akamai service or Apple iTunes servers.
But this is for Apple to solve it, we can not help anyhow with this.

Katrina S.: it is not about authorization new windows account, if you would read my previouse posts I have been able to work with iTunes immediately after PC reinstalation (authorize PC, download updates, buy new apps), but one day (actually 18hours) later I having the error -42032 for all action with iTunes (authorize PC, download updates, buy new apps).

I have tried last advise of iTunes support to run diagnostics (Help/Diagnostics/Network) all test passed OK, but when I tried download updates immediately after diagnostics I have had same error -42032 as before diagnostics!

I went through again a lot of forums on the internet and it looks like the only "few minutes" fix is":
Start / Run / cmd / ipconfig /flushdns <</div>
or
Start / Run / cmd / ipconfig /flushdns < + kill iTunesHelper.exe process</div>

But it fix it ONLY for few minutes or till you close iTunes, next start does not work again 😟

---------------
Also I found few "lucky" users which does not have this error after they upgrade their windows from XP to W7. BUT!!! They do not have an error -42032 when they download apps updates or buy new apps, but they can not Sync theirs iPhones/iPads. So, this is NOT fix as well :(((

Katrina S.: aha, sorry for misundertanding...

One more NOT WORKING workaround. After today phone call with Apple support and their last advise I have create an account on the OpenDNS.
Because as their speaking I do not know what I have installed on my PC and also my internet provide lie to me, that there was not change on the network.

But guess what? I DOES NOT WORK as well!!!

So, I have had a newly installed MS Windows on my PC, WITHOUT FireWall, WITHOUT Antivirus, iTunes diagnostics went through with "All OK" result, I am using OpenDNS server (out of my internet provider), but when I try download update/new app or authorize/deauthorize PC I am having an error -42032.
If you have a least small knowledge about internet trafic you have to agree with me that there is noway that error is on my side or my providers site.
But still Apple TechSupport talking in cycle that it is my fault :(((

One more 40minutes discussion with Apple Tech Support.
- they do not support SW, only Apple HW
- iTunes errors suppose to be handled by iTunes Store Support (I am emailing with them for 2 weeks already)
- iTunes Store Support has an escalation department where they have to escalate all errors which they can not fix User uploaded file Do not trust them that they do not have it!
- Here is a case ID opened for me, so you can use it as example that you have same iTunes error: 202319515

Good luck to all of us...

Looks like I have finally figure out this.

This iTunes error occurred ONLY!!! on the Czech localization of MS Windows XP (sp1-sp3) and it relating to iTunes version 10.1.* ONLY User uploaded file
iTunes version 10.1.* works fine on EN/SK/any other localization MSWindows, Vista and Windows7.

And because there is only "few" people in Czech republic who will bother with creating an email to Apple support, here is a cook on the biggest czech iPhone forum: http://forum.iphone.cz/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=40072&hilit=42032

I have spent some time emailing with iTunesStoreSupport and they replied to me, that Apple will not bother to investigate any issue till there will be enough (not specified number) people complain about same issue!

Everything I can say is: send them an email, so they will see that there is an enough people which have the same iTunes error.
Good luck to all of us...

I did spent a day with reinstalling one MS Windows to another, here is results:
MS Windows 7 EN - iTunes 10.1.* works OK
MS Windows 7 CZ - iTunes 10.1.* works OK
MS Windows XP EN - iTunes 10.1.* works OK
MS Windows XP CZ - iTunes 10.1.* DOES NOT work

Also "itunes error 42032" become famous in the Google search, it is on the first place already with 1770 results (that was 1000 a week ago).
But! all of them are in czech ONLY User uploaded file

iTunesStoreSupport stopped communicating with me, they did no respond to my last email for 4 days, when they respond in couple hours previously <
AppleTechSupport (phone: 800 700 527) with not do anything, because I am only one who report this iTunes error to them, so they do not care about one person problem. <</div>

So, it looks like the only way how we (czech people) can push Apple to fix iTunes for us is phone to 800 700 527 and report this to them and I mean really EVERYONE User uploaded file Also tell them that you have same iTunes error as it is in case id: 202319515.

Good luck to all of us.

Hello All,

OK, i give up. I was trying to pass information about bug which i found in iTunes software (and which could cause the 42032 error) through apple support to someone who can use it. People at iTunes support are very nice, however they are very good at not believing anything that users say (especially when they are using very bad English ;-))

The problem seems to be in way in which iTunes handles localized name of standard Windows directory "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\". This folder is named "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Data aplikací\" (with accented "i" at the end) in Czech version of Windows XP. But in some cases, iTunes tries to access file "SC Info.sidb" at path "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Data aplikacĂ\Apple Computer\iTunes\SC Info\SC Info.sidb" (note "Data aplikacĂ" vs "Data aplikací"). Which is wrong.

It looks like this bug appears only when "SC Info.sidb" is accessed using code in the library "MediaToolbox.dll". In other cases, iTunes using localized folder name correctly.

Furthermore, it looks like iTunes starts new thread short after startup. This thread heavily use "MediaToolbox.dll" and unsuccessfully tries to access "SC Info.sidb" at wrong path. If you are quick enough and you are able to start some kind of authorization against iTunes servers (Athorize/Deauthorize computer, download App, ..), this thread then behaves differently, does not try to access this file and then iTunes works correctly (without 42032 - until iTunes restart).

Summary of my observations:

*There is a bug in "MediaToolbox.dll" in accessing folder "Application Data" under localized name "Data aplikací".*

I hope that someone may find this information useful.

Just one quick note.

What actually happens to "í" character in the path name is double conversion to UTF-8.

It looks like iTunes already have whole path to "SC Info.sidb" in UTF-8 but performs CP-1250 (encoding in WinXP CZ) to UTF-8 conversion on it anyway. This does not do anything bad to 7-bit ASCII characters, but "í" (0xc3 0xad in UTF-8) gets converted to 0xc4 0x82 and 0xc2 0xad. Which is wrong.
