I want to play ipod (iphone) thru dock and hear thru headset at same time

I purchased a...

"+iPhone / iPod 30-Pin Charge and Audio Extension Cable Ideal for Cars and Docks - Easily Change Songs, Multitask, and More While Your iPhone or iPod is Plugged Into Your iHome, Logitech, Bose, or Other Speaker Docking System - 4 Feet Long+"

...from amazon hoping that i could play the ipod part of my iPhone 3Gs on my iHome dock AND listen from my headset. Is there a setting I need to change to do this? Help please.

Thanks for your help.

But you're only four feet away from your iHome dock... why do you need to use the headset as well?

It is really not the headset that I want to plug in--it is a sound pillow that uses the same plug. I want the sound pillow to be working the same time as the iHome speakers. I have severe tinnitus and this is a way to get sound to both ears while one is buried in a pillow (my most comfortable position). Didnt mean to tell a long story.

Do you or anyone know of a way to have both working at the same time. Thank you.

I have a "Y" adaptor but that will not work for what I want. I need to dock the ipod and use the headset (sound pillow) at the same time. I originally wanted to do this with my ipod nano (5G), that is the reason for the docking cable. The headphone jack is on the bottom of the ipod next to the docking port.

I can't believe that there is not a setting on the ipod or iphone allowing parallel use. Thanks for your help...
