Roland V drums TD 9 Hi Hat

I have connected my new V Drums to Logic Pro 9 thro' Cakewalk UA 25 ex, by midi and it's working great - except the high hat. The trigger on the front of the High Hat does not operate in Logic pro 9. The back part of the high hat trigger works - but the front does not. I have tried Ultra Beat and ESX 24. Anyone have a solution or point me to reference material so I can learn more about V drums and midi connections. Thanks Alan,

Macbook Pro i7 4gig 15", Mac OS X (10.6.4), Logic Pro 9.1.1

Hi,

one simple trick you can try is to replace the drum instrument with, for instance, a piano. Play both hihat zones, and check if both generate a sound from the piano.
You can press record, and doubleclick the midi region, so that you can see what note corresponds with the front end. Then, you can assign a sound to that note in either EXS24 or Ultrabeat. Or you could get into the settings menu of your V Drums, and change the note of the front hihat to an appropriate note.
Mind you, there's one thing that Ultrabeat and EXS24 don't "hear": the position of the hihat pedal. When you move the hihat pedal, Controler data of type CC#4 is sent to the sequencer. A drum plugin like BFD does react to CC#4, though.

Addictive Drums has limited drum kits but with the extensive editing the settings are limitless. There are some add-ons available for download. But what was great was how simple it was to connect with the pre-set. I use a Cakewalk UA 25 EX. My son who is into recording, rates the snare sound as great. I hope you have the same fun I am having. Thanks again for the help. Alan.
