Is there any way to set up my SMS to make it T9? I don't really like using the QWERTY keyboard.

I know that there's an app for using T9 but I don't like the idea of having to copy & paste into a message, it kind of defeats the purpose. Plus then every time I get a new message I would have to close out the message, open the app, and repeat the copy & paste process.

I don't know if employees at Apple read this, but would it be a ton of trouble to add that into the next update?

PS- The Droid Incredible has a T9 keyboard **Cough cough**

iPhone4, iOS 4

T9 is so 1990s . I don't really see that Apple will go backwards but you can let them know that you'd prefer the kludgy T9 - http://apple.com/feedback

I was raised in the 90s! I find it easier to use with one hand that way, plus I don't have to look at the screen as often.

    Thanks for the feedback though!

YES!!! T9 please!!! I don't know why there are people who support for qwerty only input for iPhone on their grandma's lives but having the T9 input as an OPTION for others who need it is really not going to inconvenience anyone!
Anyways just let market forces do the talking: if any genius who can offer T9 input as a default keyboard on the iPhone 4, I shall most gladly pay up to US$29.90 for it!
I know for certain it can be done: BAIDU input for Chinese language has succeeded in offering that through cydia & the T9 prediction with editable chinese dictionary is phenomena!!!
there is an app named FastPad that offers T9 input but it is not a default keyboard choice & u have to copy & paste again after input so it's not a true solution...
If someone is able to come up with a tweak for T9 input as an inbuilt keyboard, pls let me know: I'll gladly invest money to buy shares as I know LOADS & HORDES of iPhone owners who'd PAY BIG MONEY for iPhone T9 input without having to copy & paste, & with editable dictionary!!
let the money do the talking!!! let's all either profit &/or benefit from this much awaited T9 tweak!!!

It is not going to happen. T9, which stands for Text on 9 keys, is a patented predictive text technology for mobile phones. I doubt Apple would waste time to develop their own format or pay for it.

Good for you. And it took you nearly five months to come up with that valuable post.

haha funny tonefox... actually I was searching google and came acrossthis thread.  so it didn't take me '5 months to come up with thatvaluable post'  Thanks.  Thought I might help some people out to letthem know what other phones are capable of, and maybe port the softwareto the iphone someday?

I used T9 on a dumb phone a few days ago and it reminded me how much I hate T9.

Tamara, that is great.  We each have something different that works for us.  This thread is for those of us who enjoy T9 and would like to see it on the iphone as an option.  If you don't like it, you don't have to be involved in this thread

Posting in this thread saying your like T9 will really accomplish nothing. This is a user-to-user forum. If you want Apple to know how you feel, use the feedback link that Tamara kindly provided in the second post. By doing so, Tamara has already provided more useful information to this thread than almost anyone else.

And yes, I've told Apple I'd love to see Swype or something similar.

I also used the Flex T9 on my Android and loved it!! To each their own, but it was very quick, easy and accurate. I too, would pay for it if it were available. I'm not downing anyone for what they like but I know what  "I" like.

I completely agree. I would love a T9 option as I often text and walk but want to be aware of my surroundings - T9 requires one hand and means I don't have to constantly watch the screen to work out where to put my fingers and see what the dictinonary has come up with. I can touch type on a regular qwerty and am pretty fast on the iphone but I just want to be able to look away from the screen so I don't fall down holes / make myself an obvious mugging target. Like others, I would also pay for an integrated download, the apps don't really cut it at the moment.

You are agreeing with a post made eleven months ago.  Try doing what I do: text when you are standing still.

  • modular747 Level 6 Level 6 (17,125 points)
text when you are standing still.

But it's hard to do that when 80% of your waking life is spent texting...
