Setting up new iMac

Hello to all,

This is my first post and I am in need of some opinions and advice.
I currently have an original black macbook 1,1 and love it although yesterday I ordered a new iMac i7 2.93 with a 2tb hd and 4g RAM (owc 16g upgrade on the way) and I am considering adding a ssd from owc and would like to hear how you guys would set it up.

I am looking at a 100g ssd to add to the mix and most likely will be from OWC. This will be the main house computer so I will be using it for Aperture, Internet and hopefully build a network around this computer with my current macbook and my ladies new macbook pro 13.

How to best optimize the system and use both the hard drive and ssd together.

Thank you for all the info!

-Ian

I would like to keep everything synced. iPhone to both macs because I use my macbook alot when traveling and I would use the imac at home and I do not want to worry about hooking my iphone to one or the other and screwing things up.

I want the 2 computers that I own in the house to talk to each other. For example if I download music form itunes to the imac how then do I get it on to the macbook.

I appreciate all of the info.

Well I'm not sure you can sync a device to two computer, however that is a question you should ask in the iTunes forum.

As far as music being available on each computer that's no problem at all. As mentioned earlier just choose the syncing function.

Many people like myself like to sync items like Bookmarks, Calendars, Contacts, Widgets, Docks, Mail account settings, and notes. For this there are several solutions, one is Mobile Me which is $99/yr. I didn't like the idea of having to pay an annual fee and started looking for a third party solution. I settled on SyncTogether, which does all the above. I have it set to sync every 15 minutes however you can set it to be done manually if you want. I've been using it for about a year and found it to be a great solution and at only $49 a significant savings. However as I mentioned there are other solutions too.

For syncing files I use DropBox, this is a great tool that is gaining daily in popularity. The first 2 GB is free, after that you pay. I use it for critical documents and use it to sync documents on my 2 Macs and my iPhone.
