i have pretty much done everything possible and nothing really works. i follow all the procedures and instructions on the websites. my problem is that movistar ecuador wont tell me if it is an issue of my carrier or an issue with my phone. can facetime not connecting be a hardware issue? because i have restore the phone and everything but nothing seems to work.

(3) It could be hardware trouble. See your dealer if you think your hardware needs service.

Thanks for the info. But nothing works. I have other iphone4 user on MOVISTAR and most can't activated either but some claim they do. It's so weird not sure what to do about it.

You're welcome.

I understand your comments about MOVISTAR. As explained in

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4319

"FaceTime may not be available in all countries or regions."

Some users have reported that they went to a different location or back to the store where they bought and activated there. However, if some of your iPhone users can activate from your wi-fi connection, it would seem that yours should also activate. Perhaps they are using a different ISP for their wi-fi. As you note in your initial post, MOVISTAR told you they do not support the server needed for FaceTime.

If you believe your wi-fi can support FaceTime, one thing that has helped many users is changing the wi-fi DNS numbers to Google's 8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4

I do not have iPhone. I use iPod touch. On iPod, the DNS is configured in Settings > Wi-Fi.
Tap the User uploaded file to the right of your Network's name and enter the red info EXACTLY into the "DNS" line there.

Your phone menus may not be exactly the same, but the DNS will be the same and will be configurable somewhere within your settings.

well belived it or not I got it working. it was weird i went out of town and left it for hours until it worked. glad it did. if i ever have a problem or if i know a friend with the issue i will tell them about your solution. I wish apple just gave iphone owners the option of turn it on just like ipods for people that have issues like MOVISTAR BC APPARENTLY THE ISSUE IS WIDESPREAD but not everyone has it. thanks for your help!

Well i assume you have Movistar in Ecuador. here is the situation:

  • FACETIME activation always works with Claro.
  • There is two ways i have been able to activate factime:

  1. try to do all of the facetime setup that are explain here then leave go to phone and make sure your phone number is correct on international format i.e. +593XXXXXXXX not 0XXXXXXXX. then turn on factime at night and leave it there. it might be on by morning, once facetime is activated you dont have to deal with this again.
  2. well this is the way it actually worked for me. i went to salinas, and i did what i just told you on number 1 and i actually activated. i have no idea why it work but it did.
  3. keep trying and trying and trying until it works.

sorry dude but movistar wont help and neither apple is insisting on movistar to fix the issue nor movitar cares to do so.
