Wow.... that was a pretty thorough lesson done in a very understandable fashion. Thank you for that! We'll know after everyone opens their gifts and start setting it all up if it works right (for me!).

Maybe this is a stupid question but if the kids each have iTunes gift cards, would it be best for them to load them on their iPhone and purchase the songs and THEN sync to iTunes? The reason I ask is because they are going to want to make sure they use their own money separately to get the songs they want but then once they are synced, they'll share certain ones. If they were to put the gift card onto the iTunes account, then it wouldn't be separated as to whose money is being used, would it?

You're welcome, enjoy the holidays and your new phones.
wjosten..... Since you're obviously quite knowledgeable around here, have you seen this thread of mine? http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12774015#12774015 Hope that link works.
I've just read through that thread. You received good/correct answers. I suspect you asked me to read through to "better explain" the situation, correct?
You should be aware of the fact that I believe most, if not all, music bought from Zune Marketplace won't load to an iphone/iPod directly. Songs downloaded from the Zune Marketplace are protected by Microsoft DRM, meaning that songs purchased from the Marketplace will only be playable in Zune Software or on a Zune device. While it is possible to transfer this music to iTunes, as you've done, you will not be able to transfer such or play such on an iPhone.
As of March of '09, all music acquired through iTunes is DRM free.
