Why i can't I see my itunes library in my apple tv 2nd generation?

Hello all,

I have tried everything I can to get my apple tv to connect to my iTunes library. Itunes is updated and running on a toshiba satellite with windows 7. The apple tv has been updated as well.

My iphone remote app connects to the apple tv, but only intermittenty connects to itunes on my PC.
All devices are on the same network
The windows firewall is turned off
Home sharing is turned on on all devices
McCaffee av software has been deleted.

I have played with he router settings and configuration and I am out of ideas. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
B

I'm in the same boat.

I have an iTunes library on a new, wide-open Windows 7 machine that the ATV2 cannot see.

FWIW, my MBP can see (and connect to) the Windows 7 iTunes library.

The ATV2 sees my MBP iTunes library, and it used to see the Windows iTunes library when it was on an old Windows Vista box.

AFAIK, all software and firmware are up to date, and all are on the same Apple Extreme wireless network.

The thing that confuses me is why my MBP can see the Windows 7 iTunes library but the ATV2 can't. I guess it's due to differences between ATV2's v4.1.1 OS and MBP's v10.6.5 OS?

It's also interesting that the Windows 7 iTunes can't see the iTunes library shared by the MBP, but it works the other way, i.e., the MBP can see (and connect to) the Windows 7 iTunes library.

I hate to tell you but I just returned my ATV because of the same issue.

It is the old MAC vs PC story.

There seems to be a conflict between the operating sysyems that confuses the ATV and all works well from the router but not from the computer.

I took mint to an Apple Retail store and visited their "Genius Bar" and they couldn't get the to communicate either.

Sorry. You can visit my thread.

Having similar, but not exactly the same, problems. My ATV works fine with my PC, Windows 7 laptop. It also works fine with my new iMac. However, I am having trouble loading from a third PC in the household - a Vista-powered notebook that belongs to a roommate. Home-sharing is on and we can load each others' libraries from any of the computers around the house, but the ATV simply will not detect his device. Help?

Nope, its definitely not an Mac vs PC story at all.

I've been trying to get my ATV to work since Christmas, and I'm still no closer to fixing it. Like most people everything works wonderfully, with the exception of the Computers section, where the ATV fails to see my iMac iTunes library.

I've tried basically everything, including:
- going from wireless to wired and back again
- changing routers
- manually configured port forwarding on the routers with the TCP and UDP ports that iTunes uses
- updated both the iMac and the ATV
- made sure iTunes was up to date and using the same account info as the ATV
- brought my work macBook Pro home and the ATV could see its library, but still not the iMac one
- today I even threw out my old wireless router and bought a new Apple Airport Extreme... again no help, that was the last straw for me so now I've got no ideas left.

I really hope it'll work. If it wasn't a present I'd return it at the shop for a refund.
