Dynex Mini Display Port to HDMI Adapter to 32'' LG TV

I recently bought an HDMI output from my Macbook Pro to use on my LG 32'' TV. I connect it, and the screen refreshes and turns blue, but the TV is saying no signal. I open up Display options in System Preferences and click on Gather Windows and Detect Displays and still nothing shows up on the TV. Any help and or advice?

I just bought my Pro. It's a 13' 7,1 2010 Thanks.

I am also having a display mirroring issue.

It had worked perfectly for the past 2 years but since this week, no mirroring can occur. OSX detects my Sharp TV, like before, but cant mirror to it.

The problem seems to have occurred after I ran a Software Update on Jan 19th. Is this a pure coincidence or is there a bug with the latest OSX update I installed ? Hard to say.

By the way, I am new to this forum and I wonder if Apple Support staff read these discussion forums or is it purely an exchange between Apple customers ?

Hello! Looks like this thread is just what I need, yet it has gone dormant just when it got interesting!
I have a MBP 13" and have successfully connected it to my Phillips TV via HDMI and an adaptor.

It was successful for about a year, until a week ago. (I went out of town for 3 weeks, and when I came home, no longer connects.) I have tried rebooting TV and laptop, changed the display resolutions, checked the ports (they all work for the blueray) changed the cables (work on blueray).

Any fresh ideas for me?? I got some software updates when I got home, so something may have changed, but otherwise, I don't believe anything is different from last month/year!

I see some others also wondered about the latest (1-18-11) updater.
It is just so odd that everything was fine for so long... For more than me!
Thanks for your help

ok so i just bought this adapter this afternoon. i plugged it in and the screen went blue then shifted to my background but nothing else was showing on the screen. i tried maxing out the video players screen and still nothing. after much frustration and weeding through these discussions i found a solution to my problem and hopefully most of yours. i found that if you move boxes off the computer screen to the right they shift onto the tv screen. After moving my video player over i Command+F fitted its image and voila it adjusted to the tv screen. hopefully this helps out!

Me too after OS X update in mid-Jan.

It worked for the last 6 months without issue, no hardware or software changes except the latest update. Connecting to TV via HDMI both video and audio worked flawlessly but after the update the HDMI is completely dead. No monitor is detected, no sequence of tv power on and off, or plugging and unplugging cables or booting has any effect. As reported by others there is no 3rd tab in Display Preferences.

Since nobody has reported it, I guess Apple doesn't have an answer either? BTW does Apple monitor and respond to these forums?

I just hung up from Pioneer the maker of my plasma TV. They stated that if the signal from the computer is not HDCP 720 or 1080 compliant the TV will not read the computer. My computer is the new macbook pro and I am using a HDMI cable. The computer sees the TV but the TV does not seem to see the computer. Any answers?

Holy Mother of God. A true solution!

Turn your TV off and computer off. Unplug everything (even power cord) from the computer. Then hold down the following keys together: SHIFT key, CONTROL key, and the OPTION key. Then while holding those down press the POWER BUTTON only ONCE on your computer and release everything. It will look like nothing is happening. Then hit the POWER BUTTON again and once your desktop displays plug the Mini DisplayPort adapter back in, then turn your television back on. This should be the solution --- UNLESS, like me, your preferences need changing. If this doesn't show all your desktop icons, etc. Go to System Preferences, Click on "Arrangements" tab and then make sure to CHECK the "Mirror Image" box located near the bottom.

Good luck! Hope this helps!! I was ready to pull my hair out until now!

Hi all

I am having a similar but different problem. My video works just fine but the TV is not picking up the audio, which continues to come through my laptop. I was told that the Dynex mini display port connected to HDMI would play both video AND audio. Anyone have thoughts on how to get audio to play through the TV once plugged in?

Thank you.
