Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

"Get", "Get All", "Subscribe" buttons not showing on podcast display

I posted this as a reply on another thread yesterday, but since today I have new info, I decided to post a new topic. After updating to iTunes 10.1.1 on my Windows 7 desktop PC, there is no longer a "Get" button shown for un-downloaded episodes on the podcast display. For example, I subscribe to "PBS NewsHour Podcast" and it comes in as several episodes each day. On Dec 15, there were 6 episodes, one for each of their news stories. iTunes automatically downloaded only the last one (i.e. the default setting for a podcast); the other episodes were grayed out. Previously, there was a "Get" button next to each episode that I could click to retrieve the episode, but that button no longer appears, and there is not a quick way to download the grayed out episodes that I want.

Similarly, there is no "Get All" button next to the podcast name for a podcast with grayed out episodes. And there is no "Subscribe" button next to unsubscribed podcasts.

Today I discovered that these buttons do appear on my Windows XP laptop with iTunes 10.1.1. So, I speculate that this is somehow related to Windows 7.

The only workaround that I have found is to change the settings for the PBS NewsHour podcast to "Download all episodes" and then do "Update Podcast". This will then retrieve all episodes and I must then go remove the ones that I don't want. This is not too bad of a workaround, but I'd much prefer to have the "Get" button back.

Any ideas about what is going wrong on my Windows 7 iTunes?

Have you checked to make sure the Parental Control is not on?

*edit/preferences/parental control - disable/Podcasts,* make sure the box is not checked, that is, no tick in the box.

I was the original poster of this problem last December, and as I mentioned the problem magically disappeared after a few days. I still don't know why. But the problem re-appeared on the same machine after I updated to iTunes 10.2.1.1 last week (March 9, I believe). I waited several days hoping the problem would just go away like it did before, but after 10 days, it was still there. So, I came back here to see if anyone else had had the problem, and I'm glad to see I was not alone.

I saw Chopchopchops recommendation to repair iTunes in the control panel, and that worked. Thanks.

I had also figured out a couple of days ago that double-clicking a grayed-out episode would download it, but I hadn't known about the "invisible" buttons and poking around to find them.

Thanks for all the responses.

Just updated iTunes to 10.6.1.7 and once again the podcast "Get All" button has disappeared.

This has been happening with every update for quite some time. (I've lost track of when it 1st happened.)

Users should not have to repair the install, click invisible buttons or wait for it to suddenly fix itself, after every update.

So come on Apple, get it sorted.
