I tried that but couldn't figure out how to change the rendering intent noted within Color Sync. I don't want to permanently change the rendering intent. I'd rather be able to toggle back and forth with on-screen proofing on so that I can judge the affect of different rendering intents.
As I understand it rendering intent is a function of the CMM on OSX, Color Sync Utility in this case. I don't believe Aperture manipulates the rendering intent.
Not sure if there is a discussion group dedicated to the Color Sync Utility but you may want to poke around in the OS X lists to see if there might be another place to ask your question.
Thanks for the helpful suggestion. Perhaps my hex editing skills aren't up to snuff. I downloaded a free hex editor and edited what I thought was address 40 as you suggested. For some reason though, I couldn't get Aperture to see the profile. I closed Aperture, reopened it, and still the profile wasn't showing among the choices for on-screen proofing. Oh well.
Ah, you probably need to then edit the profile in colorsync utility and change the string names (Localized description strings). Make sure it's in your ~/Library/Colorsync/Profiles folder and restart aperture.
I did this to allow proofing of relative intent print profiles
