Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

stream AVIs to appleTV?

Here's my current setup:

I download movies from Vuze, usually in AVI format. I use DivX Converter, which runs automatically. I believe it's a plug-in for quicktime...? Anyway, I want to be able to stream these AVI movies on AppleTV, keeping me from having to go to it with an HDMI/Audio cable that'll just simply be annoying. From what I can tell, AppleTV will only let you view files that are in the "Movies" section of iTunes -- is this true?

More than anything else...

Is there any way I can view torrent-download AVI movies, streaming, on AppleTV? If yes, how so?

Thanks!

I've just got Apple TV and have Vuze too so had the same question.

Looking at Vuze I have just found that that Vuze can convert from .avi to .mp4 files FOR you so that you can easily stream from your iTunes library (which is seemingly the only place you can stream from).

All you need to do is drag and drop. Drag your .avi file from your Vuze library and drop it in 'ITunes' found in the Device Playback menu on the left sidebar. It will take a while to convert but essentially it will be in the right format and ready to stream.

I'm in the process of converting now so it's theoretical for me at the mo but this is what Vuze told me to do!

I appreciate your post was a while back but thought I'd let you know in case you hadn't found this out yet.

Cheers..

If you are using Vuze to download .AVI files, then you already have the best video file converter thar you can get.

Vuze will allow you to convert your movie files to the format that will be played by itunes, and from itunes you can stream wirelessly to your apple tv2. I do this with my laptop, and with my ipod touch, I also use vuze to convert avi files into format playable by my ipod, and from my ipod I can stream to my apple tv as well. It works in HD and SD also.

The simplest workaround I've been using lately is to install the VLC Streamer app on my iPhone. You then have to install some sort of free component onto your Mac... After which a movie will stream from your laptop to your iPhone, and from there you can just click the Icon to stream it on to your Apple TV.

Sounds complex but it isn't. In essence your iPhone works as a sort of remote, then, where you use the iPhone to select a movie that's on your laptop, then press play, and it streams to your Apple TV.

Of course this requires you to have an iPhone too, but if you do, it's simple.

Hello, ive found this little gem, for those who dont know how to stream without itunes.

Drag any movie file onto Beamer and it will start streaming wirelessly to your TV with Apple TV instantly. No jailbreak required.

No Conversion Needed

Beamer plays all (OK, almost all) movie files, so you don't need to convert your videos. AVI, MOV, MKV, WMV and FLV files will play just fine.

(Beamer requires a Mac (2007 and up) with OS X 10.6+ (Snow Leopard or Lion) and Apple TV 2nd generation.)

Hope this helps 😉

I found a way from the blog apple device tips to convert AVI to new Apple TV 3 and I have successfully used the way to put and play the converted AVI movies via ATV. The converted video file is h.264 M4V format with AC3 5.1 pass-through and AAC stereo. It works fast, you can follow the below link to have a try. Hope enjoy yourself.
