airport firmware update 7.5.2 and iPhone 4g

After I installed the software update for the Airport Utility (5.5.2) and firmware for Airport Time Capsule (7.5.2) my iPhone 4g does not connect to the internet. I have reset the network on iPhone. It will not connect to the main network config at all. It will find the wireless signal for the "guest network" setting, but will not connect to internet or mail. My iPhone is running the newest OS 4.2. Help.

Not sure if the previous steps to downgrade were specific for a version of Mac OS but i had to do the following:
1. Open Airport Utilities.
2. Select the TC or AE device.
3. Click MANUAL SETUP.
4. Select the Summary page if not on it.
5. Move the mouse pointer over the word "Version". An arrow will appear to the left of it.
6. Click the arrow to the left of the word "Version" and a drop down window will appear.
7. In the drop down window will be a drop down menu to select the previous versions of firmware.

As for the previous comments on using a static IP, this does NOT resolve the issue as the iPhone connects/disconnects repeatedly - having a static IP would work if the issue were DHCP related. This is an issue with the iOS 4.2.1 firmware on the iPhone and the Airport 7.5.2 firmware not being able to keep a stable connection.

On the previous question of having MAC security filters enabled, no they are not enabled (on my network).

For me, everything but my iPhone connects just fine wirelessly (even my iPad, which I'm using to type this entry right now connected thru my AEs/TC).

Sorry, thought you had updated from 7.4.2.

The usual rule is that you cannot revert to an earlier version of firmware than was originally on the device, which for you would have been 7.5. If you tried 7.5.2 with poor results, try going back to 7.5.1, that was what you were probably using when you upgraded to 7.5.2

Thanks. Now I understand.

I did downgrade to 7.5.1 with no improvement in my problem.

See the rather detailed thread under my name in the iPhone group. Kindle, Epson WiFi printer, and Blackberry all connect just fine to 2.4 GHz, but iPhone does not. The iPad works fine under iOS 4.2.1 when connecting to 5 GHz (which the iPhone 4 cannot do), but will not connect under 2.4 GHz (whether b/g or b/g/n, and whether WAP2 encrypted or open), and 2.4 GHz is the only band the iPhone can use for WiFi. The iPhone connects to public networks (Starbucks, hotels, etc., just fine.

I had the same problem, with 7.5.2 the wireless connection was so bad, that video streaming interrupted many times. Downgraded to 7.4.2 helped. But now every time I startup the Macbook, it reminds me with a big message that I need to upgrade to 7.5.2. Is there a way to get rid of this message?

Furthermore I am wondering when to expect the fix for this problem in a new firmware update.

I'd just like to say that "Linda Custer" and I have identical issues.I have a couple of iPads, the family have 2 x iPhone 4's and an old iPhone 3G. there's an old Apple TV, an iMac and an old PowerBook 17"... also I have two Airport Expresses routing music to remote speakers. Having issues with my Netgear wireless router and music routing, I bought an Airport Extreme, because, being Apple, I guessed it'd work. When it arrived it was 7.5.1, it upgraded to 7.5.2. All my IOS devices are 4.2.1. Basically the iPads connect to the AExtreme but they're a bit dodgy and connection takes a few goes. The iPhone4's and 3G have no hope. They just cycle round looking and their batteries go flat. My workaround was to set one of the cable connected (using house wiring Ethernet adapters) Airport Expresses to generate an RF network and the iPhones use this.

I'lll add that I run a business putting WiFi networks into industrial clients. I'd also add that my iPhone connects to every other WiFi I have ever met. I'll add further that Apple support denied the problem and told me to restore the iPhone, which is very irritating... no- worse it's extremely irritating.

If anyone from Apple is listening, the Airport Extreme / iPhone 4 WiFi is broken. I think it works with no encryption but who'd have that. I have a new Airport Ex so can't downgrade below 7.5.x

If I didn't have a workaround (using the Airport Expresses), then I'd have no WiFi for the iPhones and flaky WiFi for the iPads. Until someone accepts this issue it won't get fixed. All Apple have to do is get an Airport Ex (new) and iPhone running 4.2.1 , set encryption as WPA/WPA2 and try to connect. It won't - ever. Funnily everything else.... iMac, AppleTV, Powerbook, Dell Laptop, Sony PS3, and the one Airport Express I have that's wirelessly connect... work fine... just the iPhone, and the flaky iPad.

Please help... it's very annoying Mr Apple.

Very............

Thanks for posting too. It is good to know that many have these same issues, and the more they are reported the more Apple will elevate the priority of the fix, especially since this is an Apple-product—Apple-product interaction.

Apple does not officially monitor these discussions. It would be great if you could give them feedback by going to the “contact us” link at the bottom of most Apple web pages and selecting product feedback for the iPhone or the Time Capsule or Airport. Thanks.
