Adhesive Clip won't stick

Just upgraded to the new iPhone from the original. I have a great clip which was on my old phone adhered with double stick tape. It's been on there for almost 4 years. I cut the clip off the old phone, used a new strip of tape, no stick to the back of the new phone. WHY?

What adhesive / tape can I use to adhere this clip to the back of my iPhone?
