ripping iTunes movie .m4v to DVD?

I want to get my iTunes movies off my hard drive and rip them to DVD so that i can play them on my DVD player, or in my MacBook Pro
will this work if i just dump the file onto an empty DVD and hit the BURN button? or is there a process i have to go thru?

MacBook Pro, 15", Mac OS X (10.4.9), ooohh, its a sparkly silver, with a flip-top lid

Can't do in terms of using them on a DVD player. They are designed, by copyright owners, to only play under limited conditions. I believe you can just copy the file to a different Mac and play it in iTunes there.

You can burn them as a data file. That will get it off your hard drive. As mentioned, you cannot burn them to play in a regular DVD player.
