How do I sync my new (empty) phone?

My old phone was stolen, but I had synced it to my Mac via iSync before this, so all my contacts luckily are on my Mac.

Now I have a new mobile handset, with a new and nearly emtpy sim card / contact list. I'm worried that if I sync it to my Mac now, my iSync will choose to overwrite my old address book with the new one, which is obviously NOT what I want - I want overwrite my new address book with the old one, so I restore all the old information.

Both the old and the new phone is a Sony Ericsson W995, in case that matters.

Many thanks for any help!!

Because this is a new phone, you'll have to pair it and add it to iSync as new. iSync will then give you the options for the First sync: overwrite or merge. As there is nothing on the new phone you can choose the overwrite on first sync option.

Presumably, you have checked that all your contacts do exist directly in Address Book?

iSync doesn't sync anything to or from the SIM card, but use Address Book's backup option before the first sync. You should be backing up your Contacts regularly anyway, so data loss should be impossible.
