Can't AirPrint through belkin router

I thought you were to print directly to the printer? Maybe I am wrong.

Is your printer firmware up-to-date?

Is your router a Belkin F7D4401. If so, its not going to work, as that router doesn't support Bonjour. Apprently Belkin are working on a firmware update.

There's a neat tool available - Bonjour Browser, that you can run on your mac, and which lets you see the Bonjour services that your macs are publishing. There's a corresponding iPhone app - Discovery - that lets you see what Bonjour services your iPhone can see. It needs to be able to see the 'Internet Printing Protocol' bonjour service for printing to work.

I just received this from Belkin technical support:

Belkin is aware of the problem you mention and is currently developing an updated firmware that will resolve this problem.

The problem relates to the DAAP protocol which used by I-tunes.

As stated above we are currently working on an update however at present I am unable to offer a time frame for it's release, and would therefore suggest you keep visiting www.belkin.com/uk/support as the updated firmware will be posted there when this becomes available.

Please accept my sincere apologies for the problems caused.

It doesn't fix the problem, but at least it was a prompt response and they're working on a fix. It would be worth you contacting them about your particular router.

In the meantime I can make it work by connecting a separate 4 port switch to the router, (I happened to have one handy) and wiring everything (apple tv, mac, pc) to that. That way I can stream stuff fine. It doesn't help with the wireless side of things though - so I can't use my iPhone remote app

What does iTunes have to do with this? iTunes is not required to use AirPrint.

Absolutely nothing. And DAAP has nothing to do with this either. The common tie (and probably the reason for the confusion by Belkin) is the use of Bonjour by both for discovery.

This problem is driving me Batty, in every reference and link I've read in the last week believe me Ive read quite a few, many point to Bonjour Router incompatibility being the issue when trying to print from a IPad or IPhone Not one person I can find actually says which router works correctly with bonjour, I don't understand why HP or Apple don't publish a list of compatible routers they must have tested a few routers first before releasing AirPrint well I'd like to think they did.

I have tried 3 different Routers so far and altered every setting you can think of.

If any one can help I would be so grateful.

I'm on my third router still no Joy I have reverted back to my old belkin ,I tried a linksys wag 120n today no joy with that either in fact it was quite poor wireless communication on it.
You say you Swopped your Bekin for a NSeries so I assume this isn't working also ?

So we obviously have not purchased and tested every router on the planet since we make printers that comply with standards and expect the routers to as well. As for personal use, I have tried all flavors of Apple's current lineup (Airport Extreme, Airport Express, and TimeCapsule) and all three work fine. Actually in my setup at home I have multiple of each. I'm thinking of getting one of the new Simultaneous Dual-Band routers in order to simplify my setup.

If I tried every Router I'd be on tranquillisers by now, infact I think I'm nearly there I've read so many articles about Bonjour multicasting wpa AEK etc having effects on how AirPrint communicates with the printer, the route cause pardon the pun is the Router for sure, I have an older model Linksys coming tomorrow and Cisco to play with after that, till I find a Router that works I'll leave no stone unturned, what I don't understand is how few people have AirPrint working successfully unless used on Apple equipment, I work for a company with multiple sites I do not want to use Apple equipment if I can help it as it is cost prohibitive. I cant believe how difficult it is to get support on AirPrint, on a forum recently a guy told me he worked for apple when I explained what I was doing in detail he disappeared as quickly as possible without a good bye, says a lot to me. I've read other items also about how the software is unfinished and we need to wait for apples next release, if it can be believed. All I need is a Router apart from Apples that works with AirPrint , I will then tell the world and help others with what I've learnt.

I've asked our testing team what Routers they have tested against. I'll post back the list once I have it. I am sure its more then just the Apple routers since you don't want to use them. The other alternative is [DD-WRT|http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/index] seems to be configurable to work just fine, if it runs on any of the routers you have. Note however that this requires installing an different firmware stack on your device, so its use at your own risk here.

Many Thanks for your quick response your help is appreciated, I look forward to you posting the Routers that were used for testing, your list will also Help as we currently use about 14 Ipads within our business and when my colleagues go to others sites or business's I can advise them of which Routers will work with AirPrint, Thanks again I'll speak to you again soon.
