ADC to DVI
Called Apple Store Japan to order a new Mac Mini. Checked with them about using my old clear plastic Apple Cinema Display 20 inch, which has an ADC connector for my G4 Quicksilver. (NB This just has a single plug, not the type with a ring and 3 plugs from it, as I've seen in some manuals)
They said that Apple used to have ADC to DVI connector cables but don't sell them now. They also said that they are not supposed to say! but that I could find one from another maker, connect it to my display's cable and then connect a MiniDisplayPort to DVI Adapter cable to that and the Mac Mini. But Apple doesn't "support it" so they would not say if it works properly or not.
I'm wondering whether this type of monitor, which draws its power through this single cable from the computer is the reason for Apple saying they won't "support" this method.
So, my questions are: (1) will it work properly? (2) if yes, what maker's cable is best (or they are all the same)? (3) if there are no problems with the use of two adapter cables together like this, why does Apple say it doesn't "support" this?
I've checked through discussions but can't find a definitive answer for my problem. Hopefully, someone who has been in the same position can advise or someone "in the know" from the Mac community. Thanks in advance.
