Upgrade iMac ppc os 10.4.11 to 10.5

Hi There

I'd like know if I could upgrade the operating system on my iMac ppc from 10.4.11 to 10.5. I read a few of the forum posts and it seem that it's possible with a few tweaks. One suggestion I found is a post from tbdmoss posted on the 2nd of November, which is as follows:

It's pretty easy to get Leopard installed on any G4 machine with AGP graphics, which includes your eMac. You can make a small modification to the Leopard DVD to remove the (artificial) check for 867+ MHz if you want a DVD that will always install with no hassle, but if you just want to do one installation it's probably easier to:

(1) Hold the Command, Option, O and F keys together when starting the machine and only
release them once the Open Firmware command line has appeared.

(2) Insert the Leopard DVD into the Mac’s DVD drive.

(3) Run the following script exactly as below (including capitals), press Enter after each line
and check that Open Firmware displays “ok”

dev /cpus/PowerPC,G4@0
d# 867000000 encode-int " clock-frequency" property
boot cd:,
:tbxi

Will this work for the iMac I own?

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Dave

Back again, for reference, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661

To install from the MacBook, attach the firewire, start the MB, then:

To use FireWire target disk mode

1. Make sure that the target computer is turned off.
2. If you are using an Apple portable computer such as a PowerBook or MacBook as the target computer, plug in its AC power adapter.
3. Use a FireWire cable to connect the target computer to a host computer. The host computer can be powered on.
4. Start up the target computer and immediately press and hold down the T key until the FireWire icon appears. The hard disk of the target computer should become available to the host computer and will likely appear on desktop. (If the target computer is running Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger, you can also open System Preferences, choose Startup Disk, and click Target Disk Mode. Restart the computer and it will start up in Target Disk Mode.)
5. When you are finished copying files, locate the target computer's hard disk icon on the desktop of the host computer and drag it to the Trash or choose Eject (or Put Away) from the File menu.
6. Press the target computer's power button to turn it off.
7. Unplug the FireWire cable.

Once you are started in target disk mode, ignoring all the rest for now, run your 10.5 install image, but with the iMac HD as the target. That should go just like you were installing from an install disk. When installed, go back to the above for disconnecting the two.

Let me know if this sounds ok to do or if you want to talk some more.

Dave,

One more thing for you to read:

The response from Limnos has two articles that describe what I was saying above complete with pictures so that may give you a little better comfort level about this procedure. The article is about 10.4 but that would be the same for 10.5.
