Connecting Sony DCR-DVD92 Handycam to iMac

I have a Sony DCR-DVD92 Hanycam that uses the small DVD discs. It doesn't have a firewire port so I can't connect the camera to my iMac to transfer the video. The Handycam came with a special cable that allows me to connect to a TV with S Video and Audio (3 jacks). Is there any way that I can transfer the content of my discs to my iMac? Is there an external DVD player that I can attache via USB or some other way to accomplish this operation?

Thanks in advance for any help that you can offer.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.5), Also have MacBook Pro

You might to take a look at this rather long list:

https://support.apple.com/kb/HT3290

It is not all inclusive, so yours may work with iMovie even though it may not be listed; the important thing is that iMovie requires a USB connection - not FW. Since you mentioned USB, I am assuming yours has a USB connection? If this works, you should be able to directly import into iMovie.

I'm aware that USB is slower than Firewire, but I didn't know that Firewire was required? Have you tried it with USB? Yes, you can get an external burner/player with USB, but again, it is slower than Firewire, so the transfer would take longer. I've used an external burner for some time - it is an older model of these (with a tray, so it can hold smaller DVDs):
