can't send picture by email through iphoto 11
Mac OS X (10.6.5)
Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
Mac OS X (10.6.5)
This is good to a point - but then - if it doesn't wory:
GO INTO iPHOTO - Preferences - DELETE your Mobile Me account (they'll ask you to save photos to iPhoto or you'll lose them) and DELETE your mac/me email acount.
THEN click PLUS/ADD and re-add your Mac Mail address - and make sure the info matches your mail (although my Port didn't and it still worked) -
Voila. I'm all set.
I had the same problem and figured out the solution, but it applies only if you're trying to use gmail to send photos AND you have activated 2-step verification on your gmail account.
Instead of entering your regular gmail password into the accounts section of iPhoto, you will need to go to Google and generate an application specific password, a random password that Google uses to enable applications (like iPhoto) to access your gmail account.
Visit https://www.google.com/accounts/IssuedAuthSubTokens to generate a password and then use that random password in place of your regular password in the gmail account section of iPhoto's preferences. You should be able to send photos via gmail after doing that.
Hope this helps a few people.
Thanks Wtobiasjr! I thought my problem was related to my recent implementation of 2-step verification on gmail, but wasn't sure how to fix it. Really appreciate you taking the time to post !!
I was having the same problem. In iPhoto, I opened Preferences>Accounts. I deleted my existing email address (even though it seemed as though the information was correct). I then clicked the + button and added a new account - which is my iCloud account. I can now email photos from iPhoto'11 with no problems.
I have same problem. I cain mail if I select email instead of iPhoto but miss the template feature. Ifnintrybusing the iCloud account I get the user name-password does not match error. Good grief one would think that apples own include account would work.
Need another solution as nothing mentioned above works for me.
If the proposed fixes in this topic, iPhoto won't email pics? iPhoto quits!, you might try using one of the photo templates in Mail:
I had this problem as well. After several hours of checking every detail in the email preferences, I tried changing the port number. 587 came up as the default but my mail account outgoing mail showed a a choice of 2 others. I tried one of the others, 25 and it worked. So check your Mail outgoing port choices and try a different one.
I am able to send photos from iPhoto 11 as attachments from emails with no problem. I chose iPhoto/Preferences/General and select from the drop down for eMail-Photos-Using Mail (as in Mac email client) I can configure this email account through the Accounts tab and , for the record, my is set at port 587. All of the setting were just filled in by the "cloud" for me.
MY PROBLEM is that I wish to send photos by configuring the iPhoto/Preferences/General dialog by selecting iPhoto instead of Mail in order to get all those cool templates, etc.
When I select that option I get the "The email server didn’t recognize your username/password combination error message.
I am running Lion OSX and iPhoto 11.
Attached are some screenshots of the dialogs that I have referenced.
Preferences/General with Mail selected. Works as a normal email with attachment.
Preferences/General with iPhoto selected. Fails and produces error message.
Thanks in advance for help!

Like I was saying if you are choosing the iphoto option from the general preferences pane, then go to the accounts pane and change the port number to 25 or 465 or some other choice that you have. You can find this in you MAIL Preferences Accounts Outgoing Mail Server Tab (SMTP), Edit Server List tab, Advanced
Just saying this worked for me and I can now send mail from IPhoto
I would really like to follow this path but it does not work for me.
My email is a MobileMe (iCloud) account.
I cannot change the information that has been referenced.
All I get in that dialog is the following. If Iselect account Details I am sent to the iCloud website.
If I choose the other account, I can change the port ,etc to what is selected in my Mail client but if I pick anything but 587 then the blue progress bar fills up and the iPhoto freezes and I have to quit and restart I cannot just cancel the sending of the mail.
Maybe some screen shots would help me.
Thank you in advance for your help.
I found the only solution that worked for me is UNchecking the "use SSL" box. It worked just fine after that using port 110.

Note that this solution is very specific to the e-mail server you are accfessing - you need to have the correct setting for your server and need to get those from tech support for the e-mail provider you use

Same thing happens.... I just wait and then I get this annoying error message "Your email did not go through because the server did not reply. Check your Internet connection. If the connection is working properly, the email server may be down. Try sending your email again later."
I thought it was because photos were too large so switched to small files trying to send just 4 photos. Mailing any photos just does not seem to work.
My server is fine, I can easily send emails with attached photos, just not from iPHoto, so it appears to be an issue here.
HELP Apple! These simple things are just not supposed to happen with your machines.
1 - you need to be aware that there are no Apple people here - this is just a user to user forum
2 - IMHO the berst solution is to use Apple Mail for your e-mail client - set in the iPhoto preferences

I was having this issue too.
I am on Cablevision's Optimum Online (now with Boost, because I run an Exchange Server too.)
The issue with my iPhoto (using my .mac account for iPhoto) not sending was that the outgoing server was not set to use Optimum's outgoing server. I changed it to my optimum user name, port 587, entered my password and unchecked SSL.
I could use port 25 and my exchange server, but decided not to setup a receive connector to relay. The above is just easier.
The iPhoto accounts pane does not import the settings from Mail.app. Please verify that the settings are the same with your Mail.app account as they are with the iPhoto one, don't rely on iPhoto to have it exactly the same.
