Hi! I had the same problem it took me forever, but I finally figured it out. You may be receiving that error message because you have "Two Step Authentication" turned on.
Follow these steps:
1- go to myappleid.com
2- click on manage my apple id
3- sign in (you will have to enter your apple ID verification code which will be sent to one of your 'trusted devices'.
4- once you are logged in, to the left of the screen you will see: "Edit your Apple ID." Click on to "Password and Security" You will then (to the right of the screen see a heading which says: "Manage your security settings." Below this heading, look for a heading which says in bold face type: Generate an app-specific password. Beneath this heading will be a description of the benefit of having app-specific passwords . After this brief explanation you will see in blue colored type : Generate an App-Specific Password, click on to it. You will be asked for which app you'd like to generate an app-specific password for. Type in iPhoto. An app-specific password will be generated for you. It will look something like this: xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx . You will be prompted to copy and paste it into the password field of the app you would like to sign in to.
5- go back to iPhoto, select the photo, click on mail, select the template, fill in any message and click send. You will be prompted to type in a password. Paste the password that was generated for you, and.... It WILL WORK!
Thanks... You saved me a lot of trouble
You're welcome!
