Why wont my computer download iPod Touch 4.2 Update?

I bought a computer for my self for christmas. I got a iPod touch 4th gen for christmas from my mom and i set it up on my new computer. I have ALOT of space on this computer. I noticed my iPod has an update for 4.2 and decided to wait because i wanted to transfer my apps from my 2nd gen to 4th. I go to update it and all of a sudden it goes to the end of the download and then it give me an error saying its the network. I have stong internet connectivity. I dont know why it wont download. Can you please help me?!?!

i think you have to keep going to the page and wiggling the mouse i kept getting the error code thing and it said the conection was timing out so the mouse thing might work but for me it will take about a hour to download the update? how long does the update say it will take for anyone else? and when you update how can you get all your apps and music and stuff back?

Why the heck cant we get a clear answer? do they want all of us to pay there stupid tech support fee? what a joke? there are probably hundreds of people with this problem. i tried turning off my firwall and rebooting i tried "wiggling the mouse" even though i knew that wasnt it. what the heck APPLE.
