just got a new laptop...cant moves music to iphone now

ok, mr.vague here.
i have an iphone 3gs. it has a large amount of music on it, which i burned off my own cd's, and then synced to the iphone via itunes.
the laptop i carried this out on is now dead.
i have a new laptop, and have started burning new cd's onto it, which i want to add to my iphone. it wont let me, without dumping the whole existing music library on the iphone?
help.

This is correct. The iphone will sync itunes content with one and only one computer at a time. If you sync to another, it will indeed erase the current content from the iphone and replace with content from the new computer.

Also if you sync to a computer with no contacts or calendar entries then it will delete these from the iphone as well.

This is one of the many reasons that it has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer files/docs/pics/music/etc.

Use your backup copy to put everything on the new computer, then sync.
