Cinema 23" - is this normal/acceptable?

Hi,

with a black background, the backlight is "bleeding" from the bottom. (see the picture: http://axu2.dnsalias.com/~axu/cinema.jpg )

there is total of 7 green, red and blue stuck pixels - but only 3 of them are barely visible other than totally black backgroud.

i also have a Viewsonic 19" display - cheapest you can buy. There is nothing like this.. that's why i expected more from this Apple Cinema, which was the most expensive in its class.

So I've pretty much narrowed my search down to either:

Eizo S2410W

or the DELL UltraSharp 2405FPW

Either will be a big departure in design from the Apple but I'd take a working display over that. The Eizo is probably more than I'm willing to spend but I've heard good things about it. The Dell is around the same price I paid for the Apple but can be had for less if there's a coupon kicking around.

Let me know if you find anything else.

I got my 23" display today, was quite flawless out of the box. A few hours later (obvious after the burn in) it now has 1 pixel stuck on red and 3 stuck on green.

It also exhibits some uneven backlighting on the top, right and lower left hand corner of the screen.

Taking it back to the reseller tomorrow to see what can be done. My 20" Dell was better than this apple display.

Similar experience for me. I returned three 23" ACDs before getting a good one. All three came from Compusa. All three has pixel and backlighting issues. I figured they just had a bad batch....so I went to the Apple store and bought the one I have now. No pixel problems...no backlight problems. Really frustrating....and pretty sad on Apple's part. Who the heck is overseeing quality control ??

I have had similar problems. I bought a 23" and found at least 12 stuck pixels and one dead pixel. The plastic side casing was also sticking out at the top and on close inspection I could see a tiny dent on the metal frame. I was very disappointed with the quality issue versus price of this monitor. I took it back to John Lewis in the UK and got them to swap it after having to check the stuck pixels in the store under bad lighting conditions. The replacement monitor has no dead pixels and 3 stuck pixels. I'm pretty unhappy that I have a less than perfect monitor, but I don't want to change again in case I get something worse. I also have a feeling that John Lewis would be less inclined to replace a second time. The stuck pixels are not really noticeable and I got an extra 2 year warranty for around £39. I also don't suffer from the pink hue problem and there is not much backlight bleed.

I must be mad considering the cost of this monitor but I love the design and practicality.

I have been reading various threads here for the past year about trouble with the cinema displays. There have been countless posts complainings about these devices. I am glad I decided to pass and get the Viewsonic Professional P225f flat screen crt. As a professional photographer it can be calibrated. The apple lcds can not be calibrated.
It is big, heavy, and not as sexy but it is very affordable and it works without any of the color, banding, pixel issues. Apple makes great gear with their moniters being the exception.

I know what you mean. I work in TV post and you really need a CRT grade 1 to work accurately. The LCD's are not up to it in terms of refresh and colour balance.
On top of that the cost of HD CRT monitors is ridiculous, but you just can't grade accurately on anything else. I bought a 23" for work and it has no pixel/colour issues, but is useless for pro grading, just a nice bit of eye candy for clients. Unfortunately the one I bought for home use had the problems listed above.

Hope you enjoy the Viewsonic and it's accuracy/reliability.
