Deleting Cookies

Hi, I deleted a list of cookies that I don't want, keeping those I do. After a restart I checked again to find that the cookies that I deleted were still there. How can I delete these unwanted cookies permanently?
Thank you.

After deleting every item I found with EasyFind with the title cookie; the using flash cookies, clearning safari history, deleting all Safari cookies, I still have the list of cookies of sites I never visit appearing. The most obnoxious is the Zeobit.com cookie, how that keeps showing up is difficult to trace.

Any ideas how to clear all the cookies permanently, even evercookies - where are they in the system. My preferences are set to Block cookies from 3rd party advertisers, other settings don't filter out these cookies. I can empty all cookies and within a few minutes they are back. Sometimes they are replicating while I am trying to delete them.

Using Firefix is too sluggish for me. Google Chrome seems to get my Virus checker running everyday, so I guess that program is downloading something automatically on a daily basis. Would liek to use Safari or WebKit without the continual need to deleat cookies.

I am finding that I am I deleting the cookies in the Safari>Preferences>Privacy they are regenerating on the spot; it is like a game of Wakamoley.

I found after resetting Safari, running flush cookies, emptying any file with the name cookie from teh system all that was left was 'locally stored files Cashe' listed in the cookies list. Within a short time all the cookies were back including the abnoxcious zeobit.com cashe cookie.

Does anyone know how to delete these cookies that show cashe? Or infact find where the several potential places these cookies are stored for regeneration and delete?

I am using Safari WebKit Version 5.1.2 (6534.52.7, r102453)

The most effective solution I have found it to go into Finder-->(User)Account-->Library-->Cookies and then drag the Cookies.plist folder to the Trash. Empty the Trash and then restart your Mac. All of your Cookie info will be gone; along with any info the Web Sites saved using Cookies. You can lose some stored passwords this way, at least those stored via Web Site Cookies, so make sure you have them somewhere like in Keychain or can retrieve them from the host. This can be time consuming, but it will clear your Cookies. OF course, Cookies will be gin to regenerate when you start visit Web Sites again. You may want to choose only allow cookies from the Web Sites I visit in Safari Preferences.

Thanks Brad, but I have gone far beyond that trashing the .plist and all files with cookie, flash cookies, etc. reseting safari, deleating all bookmarks, history, etc. But still the same old cookies come back that slow Safari to a crawl. They are even reappearing while I delete them. The could be evercookies, but as these are stored in numerous locations if you don't delete all locations then they are going to come back. Today I have deleted the cookies 3 times and each time there is a speed increase with Safari; but then all the cookies reappear and back to slow responce times.

I really would liek to get to teh bottom of all the places where these things are stored on the HD.

1. Backup your important data such as usernames, passwords, etc.

2. Install Safari Cookies from http://sweetpproductions.com/safaricookies or your Mac software site.

3. Restart Safari.

4. Within Safari Cookies, set your preferences. Set your favorite cookies, flash cookies, and databases.

5. Begin using Safari.

6. When you need to clear cookies, flash cookies, and databases; restart Safari.

7. If there is a technical difficulty between Safari (e.g. 5.1.1) and Safari Cookie (e.g. 1.8); go to menu bar > Safari > Empty Cache... (or command + option + E).

8. a. Wait at least one minute for the undesired data to disappear. The more data, the longer this process.

8. b. Or restart Safari.

9. Only the favorite items should be present.

10. If the above does not work, repeat steps 1-6.

11. Go to menu bar > Safari > Perferences > Privacy > Remove All Website Data... (Favorite and non-favorite items will be deleted).

12. a. Wait at least one minute. The more data, the longer this process.

12. b. Or restart Safari.

13. No cookies, flash cookies, or databases should be present (favorite or non-favorite).

I am still finding issues with cookies regenerating, even after clearing all the cookie data and .plist, fash cookies, etc.

Resently I found cashe items in the cookies at Safari > Perferences > Privacy >

Items mostly showed site IP's rather than names; e.g. 173.203.67.201 cashe and so on, there was an whole list of them.

Of more concern was the return of the Zeobit.com cookie, which I had thought had been eliminated. Deleting has no impact on this cookie; so I assume the regeneration programs is located in numerous places.

I wonder if anyone knows how to completely remove 'all' unwanted cookies, including the mini programs that regenerate them. Also where the 'cashe' cookies are stored.

I also foudn Safari extremely unstable recently; friends have also reported teh same issues. Firefox runs really slow, so it is difficult to stay focused using that browser.

Any targeted ideas are most welcome.

You can get 5.05 here:

http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/Safari5/041-0564. 20110413.Fi9pb/Safari5.0.5SnowLeopard.dmg

I used Pacifist to force install it because the version of Snow Leopard (10.6.8) I was running thought it too old. Pacifist will let you work around such objections: Here are some instructions in regard: http://appletoolbox.com/2010/06/downgrade-from-safari-5-0-to-safari-4-0-5/

However if you are running 10.6.7, as your ID indicates, Safari 5.05 might install without issue. Try it to see.

I believe another way to work around an install objection would be to trash the related file (to the app):

users/lib/preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist

1. Or one can reinstall Safari 5.0.5 using the install disc of Mac OS X. See http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/19535.html

2. Skip the auto software update.

3. Instead use a Mac OS X Update Combo that does not include Safari.

4. Or skip the auto and Combo update.

5. Let me know if your question is answered by marking my solutions as "correct" or "helpful."

Sorry Klaus I downloaded either 'Cookies' or 'Safari Cookies' a little while back and had to uninstall it for a reason I do not recollect at the very moment but then I am using Safari 6.0 (7536.25) with Mac OS X 10.7.4 too.

I am having my own major privacy issues with Mac right now as well unfortunately but am learning to laugh it all off. Have to. I drive a Coyota Torolla that doesn't get anything near the fuel economy claimed by the manufacturer but the over riding fact is that it Never breaks down. You just have to take the good with the bad in life sometimes. It's called, 'perfection'.
