MBP not seeing Sony DCR-TRV530

I have an older TRV-530 Digital-8 camcorder. I have a firewire 400-600 cable and a 600-800 adapter. I'm new to the whole video editing scene, but I this really shouldn't be that hard.

I checked in System Profile and it thinks for about 15-30 seconds but then says firewire devices can't be listed.

Any thoughts?

Camera settings:
in VCR mode
A/V-DV out - on
Video Edit - ready
Edit Set - i.Link

Any other settings I need to worry about?

Thanks

Camera must be plugged in to AC power (not running on batteries).

Several people have reported issues with the 600-800 adapters. Try a 4 pin to 9 pin cable.
They are available at a reasonable price at places like monoprice.com. Also available at Radio Shack, etc.

It could also be a problem with Firewire on the camera or on your Mac, but 90% of the time it is a bad cable.
