How rugged is an iPad?

Could I use it for c25k app in a backpack without harming it?

Thanks

It is a glass and aluminum device-how rugged does that sound?

I would not use it to slay a bear or chop a cord of firewood.

If I were going to carry it in a bouncing, slung around backpack I would at least get a case such as this:

I wouldnt worry about the jostling either, but isnt the point of c25k running and timing, and watching the screen for cues? Sounds like a PIA to be getting it in and out all the time. Use a phone or a touch with an arm band.

I cannot get past the c part, and parked here on the couch it is convenient, but I'm not so sure about running and using it.

LOL, I Really need help getting off the couch thus c25k. It's been over a year since I've even hunted for my "running" shoes

My family and I did it before with podcast, so as long as you can hear it you don't need to see it. We had pda's in fannypacks and pockets. I have friends who've used the app on iPhones. They say it is great because the audio cues are overlaid on the play list you pick instead of embedded in someone else's choice of music.

Sounds like I need to research backpacks as part of my decision. And bear traps. 😉

I'm trying to replace a palm tx. ipod touch would be easy to carry, but ipad would be easier to use/read. iphone is tempting, except for the monthly charge. decisions decisions

Thanks Y'all!!!

If your primary purpose is running, I'd go with a Touch. There are some great apps for running, which sadly, I can't remember the names of right now. I think the one I like is called Interval Run. You can set it up for whatever walk/run intervals you like. It can be used with your choice of music (I highly recommend Podrunner Podcasts for running music). You can also use it with a Nike+ iPod running system for logging runs. The screen, though obviously smaller than the iPad, is still quite readable.

Also, in my personal opinion, that much extra weight in a backpack would be far more than I could justify. It's also easy to put the Touch in a zippered sandwich bag when the weather is bad to protect it from damp. That's going to be harder with an iPad.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck! I'm doing much the same thing right now.

Thanks for the thoughts on weight.

Running is definitely at the bottom of the list for what ever this future devise is. We mainly do it because it is a family activity.

More important functions would be calendar/organizing/lists ( shopping),
mobile homeschooling ( writing, reading, programming, recording ( database maybe)),
net stuff on the road (errands, camping, travel).
