Can't drag pictures to the desktop any more

Something changed after a recent import. I can't grab a picture and drag it to the desktop now. I restored the Pictures folder (where my library is) to what it was before the import and that didn't fix it. When I drag, when it gets over the desktop, it shows the international NO sign instead of the green ➕ sign, and won't drop the picture on the desktop.

Any ideas?

I found the problem. Somehow, my Desktop folder got locked. I didn't lock it, but once I did a Get Info and unlocked it, the pictures would drag and drop onto the desktop
