ERROR: The product distribution file could not be verified.

When ever I try to purchase anything in the store i get the error below

"The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed"

Problem showing up a lot on twitter but cant find a resolution. Anyone ?

MacBook Pro 2010 i5 Unibody, Mac OS X (10.6.5)

This solution did not work for me. Now it simply freezes the app store with a pinwheel when I try and download something.

I have tried, rebooting, logging in, logging out, delete prefs, resetting safari. delete appstore and reinstalling 10.6.6 update.

Can confirm:

* stopping the App Store
* deleting it from the Applications
* empty the recycle bin
* Reapply the 10.6.6 update

Confirmed. Worked for me too.

One sidenote. After I downloaded the 10.6.6 combo updater, it would fail while trying to install files. After several attempts and some searching on other threads, I did a DiskUtil repair permissions, removed an attached USB drive, and booted in Safe Mode. While in that condition, the updater worked. Then using the App Store started to work too.

How do I re-install the combo update 10.6.6 if it was installed through the automated software update? Can I get around re-downloading the 1.2GB manually somehow? Thank you.

I meant a way to reapply the update that my software update already downloaded and installed. I don't want to download the combo again.

Could not delete the AppStore from Trash. Complained about a 'DockTile' currently in use. I Simply just logged off my MBP and logged back in and worked fine.

Running 10.6.7, App store still not working, deleted app store, cannot install 10.6.6 combo update anymore. downloaded app store.app, came back up, but did not work still... app store did not work at all, after all updates to current were applied...

I upgraded to 10.7 (lion) and get the error message referenced when trying to install Xcode. When I try to delete app store from applications I get: “App Store” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by Mac OS X. Must i go back to 10.6.x?

I have got a new Mac mini with Lion preloaded. when i try to install xcode from Mac appstore it gives same error ("The product distribution file could not be verified. ...) What should i do?

I got a response from Apple support (finally after 8 tries) that admitted there is a bug with the download but still have not found any resolution. Infinite Loop is correct. After 2 weeks I am still without Xcode on Lion and still no solution.
