ERROR: The product distribution file could not be verified.

Can't do that with Lion...what about same problem with OSX10.7.3??

I found a solution on page 3 that seemed to work when I got this error with OS 10.7.x.

Close your App Store app. Open finder, do a command-shift-g then type /var/folders on the textbox. Delete the 3W folder (its better if you create a copy in your dekstop before deleting just to be safe). Open the App Store then try to purchase and pray it works because it worked for me. :-)

This worked for me. The folder /var/folders/ht which I deleted restarted app store and could finally download. Thanks!

I still doesn't work for me. I've tired all the solutions listed here and nothing worked. I'm using Mac OS 10.7.3.

Went to /var/folders and erased everything in there (folders named 65, gq, vh, zz) after I copied them for safekeeping and it worked perfect. (on 10.7.3)

still - it is pretty annoying that apple software can be so buggy like this. What happened to - 'It just works' ?

I wasted about an hour of my time trying to fix this before finding this solution.

Having this problem trying to upgrade to Mountain Lion, tried deleting contents of /var/folders with no luck also tried repairing disk permissions using disk utility(from another post) no luck there either.

Anyone else have an idea?

Just thought I'd add to the list of those suffering from this problem. So right now I can't download Mountain Lion. Given the longevity of this complaint I suspect that ML won't solve it either. It less "I just doesn't work" than "We don't really care - it's the iphone that makes us money".

I hope this is not the start of the slippery road downwards - after 30 years I don't want to have to change everything, it's far too expensive. Maybe that is what Apple is betting on.

I have just managed to download mountain lion, turns out my antivirus was blocking me from downloading ML, I could download other apps fine but not that. A bit annoying really.

I think I have a better solution. I have a Lion OS X and received the same problem message. I logged in my imac with the second user (not administrator) and I went in the app store with the second user of the imac and my ID-Apple. It worked. Regards,

This just worked for me! I was trying to install Mountain Lion. Did this, and now it works.
