I read in a couple of places that you can update the iWork apps (Pages, Keynote, Numbers) to the applications from the App Store. I keep looking for a way to do this with no success. Has anyone come across a way to do this? Or, at least confirm whether or not it was done automatically and I just didn't notice it?
If you already had iWork on your computer, they should have been updated when you ran Software Update. There was an iWork update released today along with the 10.6.6 update.
Ah! So using the old-fashioned Software Update approach, they replaced my old versions with the new App Store versions and somehow the App Store is supposed to know that and update my iWork apps when there are new versions. I wonder why the other app makers have not figured out this simple thing.
No, it doesn't. Maybe it would if I dared press the "Buy" button. However, reading other posts here, it would seem that I run a significant chance of buying the iWork apps a second time. So either there is another way to check them or it is too risky, for me.
I did the iWork'09 v5 update last night and they show installed in the App Store, so definitely do it that way.
It will not show them installed if you have an older version eg, I have iLife'09 so it shows the new iLife'11 available for purchase. I presume that any future updates for v'09 will still be done the old way (if there are ever any future updates).
Other developers will go this way presumably, I just checked Text Wrangler for example, I had v3.2 on my machine, App Store had v3.5 and did not show mine installed. Once I hit the Free button it downloaded and installed over the old one and now shows installed on the App Store.
New way of doing it all, but I guess with time we'll get used to it.
It shows that iWork was updated today. But there is nothing to indicate that the update made my version now App Store versions. That includes the release notes for the update.
I'm having a very similar issue. I have 10.6 with iLife '11 and iWork '09.
iLife has been updated. In the Mac App Store, all the applications that make up iLife have read "Installed" where "Buy" would usually be. iWork, however, prompts me to buy each program.
When I open Pages, Keynote, or Numbers it tells me there's an update. Then I go into Software Update and it tells me that all my software is up to date.
I'm stumped. If anyone has a good idea, let me know and I'll report back if it works or not so everyone will know what to do.
If iLife '09 is up to date on your computer, open iphoto' 09 > About and it should be v8.1.2, where the version on the App Store is iPhoto'11 v 9.1.1, so it should be showing as available to purchase as the '09 version is old.
If iWork '09 if up to date on your computer, open Pages' 09 > About and it should be v4.0.5, which matches the version on the App Store, so it should say it is installed.
My Pages does say version 4.0.5 (852). However, the App Store very clearly shows "Buy" on the button. I assume that when I press that button, I'll be purchasing it again. So…there seems to be a bug in the system. I have the most recent version, but it is not showing in the App Store.
