Philips SHB6000 not working

Dear All:

Computer recognizes and pairs my Philips Bluetooth SHB6000 fine. However, the preference pane Sound Output shows two of them. One labelled "Philips SHB6000 Bluetooth Headset" and the other "Philips SHB6000 Bluetooth Headphone". Sound preference pane Input shows only one, labelled "Philips SHB6000 Bluetooth Headset". When attempting to use it with Skype (test call) I select "Bluetooth Headset" for both input and output in the preference pane, and the same in the Skype audio preferences. I hear the Skype message fine, but my own voice recording is all garbled and hardly audible.

Now both Philips and O SX confirm they support A2DP.

If used as an audio device only (iTunes, web video, etc.), and selecting 'Headphone' it works fine.

Now, when I attempt to use the Philips with my iPod (3rd. gen) a message appears: No Microphone, Plug in a headset or microphone to talk on this call. Needless to say, Bluetooth is turned 'on', the headset is paired with the iPod/MacBook, mic. not muted.

Any ideas? Philips troubleshooting was of no help!

Many thanks.

MBP, iPod 3rd. Gen, iOS 4.1

Hi luvlabs,

I have just downloaded O SX 10.6.6 The microphone portion of the Philips headset works with the Mac Book Pro connected to Skype. The sound is still lousy, but this is not a Mac problem.

The trick is: System Preferences/Sound/Output>select Bluetooth Headset; Input: only Bluetooth Headset appears, select it.
Skype/Preferences/Audio: two will appear, Phillips SHB6000 and Phillips SHB6000#2. Ignore #2 completely and select Phillips SHB6000.

You will still get poor sound, but it will work.

Thanks to all.
