Getting a Roman numeral

Shift i does not really produce a true Roman numberal one.
Is there a way to get that? thanks!

imac 27" (12/09) 13" macbook (4/08), Mac OS X (10.6.2)

Yes, keyboard viewer can only show what has been programmed into the keyboard layouts for various languages, which is small fraction of the total characters available. You can however use the Ukelele tool to edit keyboard layouts to include Roman Numerals or whatever you want, and then they will show up on Keyboard Viewer:
