Welcome to the forums!

What you need is:

Perian from http://perian.org/

You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs. In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/

This is an easy one, when you install divx, it adds the web player plugin to safari, but it also adds an extension, and this is what's messing up the trailers and quicktime vids for you.

All you need to do is go into Safari - Preferences - Extensions, and delete the divx extension. Then your quicktime vids and trailers will play fine again. And divx player will still work (unless you're on safari 5.1, in which case divx web player is broken at the moment).

Hope this helps.

Thank you...I tried it and it worked. I even asked someone at the Apple store yesterday and they told me when I downloaded OS X Lion that it would fix the problem. After reading some of the problems with OS X Lion, I've decided to wait a little while to see if Apple fixes some of the complaints. Thank you, again...I have been trying to figure out how to fix this problem for several months!
