iPhone 4, iOS 4
Mine went funny yesterday, randomly decided to need to be pressed crazy hard to work just as I was thinking of trading it in. I can't declare it fully working now I guess, ffs. Never damaged the phone at all.
Hi all,
My power button was stuck suddenly after one year and a couple of months of use and Apple has told me that if I pay 149€ in a Apple Store they will give me a new one refurbished.
I disagree... what can i do? 😉
Well the same thing happened to me, mine is an iphone 4s and is already 13 months old, it happened a week ago, the power/sleep button became unresponsive. i used assitive touch during the whole week, luckily had free time and went to an iphone repair shop earlier today and they charged me for about 24$.
I got iphone 4 white about a week before release of 4s.I used the device with great care as i dont like scrachy phones but my sleep/wake button got damaged last week.I don't know how it happened but it seems apple fall short of what they claim(quality) or maybe they intend to have damaged iphone just after customers warranty expires so they could buy new one.Offcourse i have iphone5 too but what about apple claim of quality. The button lost its rubbery feeling in a day and does not work now.
Well add me to this list! Had a replacement iPhone 4 roughly 6months back, 2 months back button started to feel funny/sticking. And then it does nothing. non responsive. no click no nothing. luckily the iOS has assistive touch. Phone being out of warranty I have no quick fix!
We've had the same problem also with the home button sticking and unresponsive. Took it back to Apple 3 times and they cleaned it the first time, the second they air pressure cleaned it and said to try it for a few weeks to see how it goes and the third time the wanted to charge £180 approx for a replacement because it had just gone out of warranty.. It's a disgrace - they are aware of the problem but won't do anything about it just prolong it enough so your out of warranty and have to pay!!!!
That actually happned to me as well with my iPhone 4. If you still have your 1 year warranty or Apple Care, go to an Apple store and they will replace the phone free of charge.
Clean your hands beore you use your iphone, also the iphone home button could be actually broken, mine completely broke and did not work. luckily i had another iphone and i just swapped out the motherboard. Buttons only work for a certain amount of time and can be easily replaced. Either by Apple, yourself, or a 3rd party replacement store.
We have two iPhone 4s (18 months old) that have problems with the power button! Hopefully, this does not happen to my iPhone 5. We were also offered the option to replace the phones at a cost of $200 each!
I've got a Iphone 4 from 16 months old with a broken power button too. Sometimes when you push very hard at the right sight at the back of the button there comes a reaction, but it isn't very fine. They wouldn't make it, for €150 they will give me a new one. My ticket shows 2 years guarantee from the Saturn, but apple said there's only 1 year fabric guarentee so I have to pay..
I have this button, and the "genius" who helped me said I could power down my phone with it, but I can't find that option??? Where is it?
The power button is made of plastic. That is why.
Not sure if this is only a iPhone 4 problem, but my 4s just had this same thing happen. About a year and a half old, and power/sleep button just stopped working over the course of an hour. Did not drop it or anything. Button felt a little weird when activating for a couple times during that hour. Then, just not working at all. Feels weird. Does not seem to actuate like normal. Having to use accessibility options to lock screen etc. This blows and is obviously not an isolated thing. I refuse to pay $160 to fix this. Especially when I can order the power cable, proximity sensor replacement wire part and tool kit to do it for $7.00 on amazon.com. Come on apple. Man up and make this right. Fix these stuck buttons for free! This is my 4th iPhone, plus I have an iPad and other apple products. You owe me this one!
I completely agree, or repair the problems for cheaper..
Lucily when I had this happen the phine was only 11 months old, so was fully covered. Whether this is a design flaw, or a manufacturing flaw with a certain lot of parts is irrelevant. As well made as this phone is in others areas, to have all these paroblems with a 2mm piece of plastic is dumb. As has been pointed out, the repair is cheap and to charge to have the phone replace is outright stupid. Now withnthat said, Apple is looking at having a full rapir service at their Genius Bars soon. Also saw where Apple Care is going to be staring a subscription service for their products, so if you have multiple Apple products (like I do) for some yet to be announced annual fee you could get your products repaired at the Apple Store. I'll wait and see on this one. Right now at the Genius Bar, they are only allowed to replace items like phones and iPods, so there is little they can do with an out of warranty product. I couls see paying 20 or 30 bucks to have the phone repaired. Of course, a button on a 600 dollar phone should LAST MORE THAN 11 months. As for the woman suing for that rediculas amount, trust me lady, you were NOT 15 million dollar inconvenienced by your broken iPhone power button.
