iPhone 4 Power Button Stuck

Out of the blue today the power/lock button on my iPhone 4 became completely unresponsive. It doesn't seem to be jammed and it actually seems to be loose and a bit wiggly. Now I can't restart my phone and I can't lock it. I was wondering if this was a common problem with other iPhone 4 units and what would be the best way to go about getting it fixed. I got this phone from a friend about a month ago who had only used it for about two months before switching to a different phone. Prior to receiving this phone I had been using an iPhone 3G for two years with no problems whatsoever. This iPhone 4 has not been dropped or exposed to water or humidity of any kind. I'm glad to see this problem is actually quite common! my iphone was sent off yesterday to be fixed for this same problem. looks like ill be getting a new handset, YEY! 🙂

I hope I have the same luck, it's been getting worse over the past few weeks and now I can barely lock the screen or switch off 😟

This just happened to me as well. I'll be hitting up the apple store today to see if they can fix the phone. I didnt have any issues until I bought a new bumper case..

@cpaulfan123 It was a refurb unit... It's in a box, but not the original..

If you were in the southern California area, I'd be able to get you a swap.

Not sure of anywhere else though.

yea so I now have the same problem with my iPhone, i dont have apple care and I have had my iphone for about a year now do i have to pay for a new iphone now?

You may also have to replace the flex cable as well. Im going to replace both just to be certain.

The instructions are on the same site.

Replacing the button wont help. You need to replace the power flex ribbon cable, not the button itself.

Nope..that won't fix it. The button has lost its tactile click. Mechanical FAIL.

Time to write Tim Cook a letter. $30 billion in cash...they should stand by their product. This is another Papermaster screw up and they know it.
