iPhone 4 Power Button Stuck

Out of the blue today the power/lock button on my iPhone 4 became completely unresponsive. It doesn't seem to be jammed and it actually seems to be loose and a bit wiggly. Now I can't restart my phone and I can't lock it. I was wondering if this was a common problem with other iPhone 4 units and what would be the best way to go about getting it fixed. I got this phone from a friend about a month ago who had only used it for about two months before switching to a different phone. Prior to receiving this phone I had been using an iPhone 3G for two years with no problems whatsoever. This iPhone 4 has not been dropped or exposed to water or humidity of any kind. And mine has just gone. 14 months old - not a cheap bit of kit and acting like it. Does Apple read these posts?

I count myself lucky: The button just died after 20 months. Not that I expect apple to step up and do the right thing...

Thank you for this, but for the record, turning it back on is an issue. So, I can use the button on the screen now, but I would not recommend turning it off.

To turn the phone back on: Plug it in to the wall or usb.

So yes, it's a PITA but better than an brick.

Add me to the list. Power button died at about the 14mo mark and never bothered going thru the ridiculous 'support' as all they offered was a refurb for $200.

Same thing happened to me too. At around 18 months and now I have a $700 piece of garbage. I've been working on developing an iPhone app too and used to defend Apple, but what's the point.

My button just crapped out as well. Apple needs to just fix them for free. I should bill them for my time.

It sorts out the lock-button. But what about the power on/off function? Any solution for that?

My warrenty ran out and I've barely had my iphone a year. I've taken very good care of it! This is so lame.

If your phone dies, plug it into your computer and it will turn back on. I just had this same problem and i cant get a new phone until march 2014. Hope this helped.

Well my 4S now has a faulty power button. For a few days it was just hard to push, then started getting stuck, now it's not working.

ive only had my iphone a couple months ... no damage at all .. yeaterday out of no where the button stopped working ...:(

My iphone 4s has same problem. The power button stucked inside the phone one day and now i have to press it really hard in order to work it out. Apple charges me 149bucks to replace it.

My 4s button dies this week. It will be covered under my Amex warranty extension, but what a pain. So is a replacement phone $150 or $200?
