Need to view WMV movies on my iPad

I have an answer for you...

THE BEST App I've used so far is brand new... Download the free Boxee App. With that, you can send just about ANY movie from your PC or MAC to the Apple TV 2. I'm not talking converted movies that are in iTunes, I'm talking your legally ripped DVD's, movies legally downloaded from the net in any format like MP4, WMV, Divx, DVD files, etc. It works perfectly and flawless for me. I have 3 external HDD's on my PC loaded with movies and this app sends all of them (so far) to my Apple TV 2. I have a projector and being able to NOT use a wired connection is essential.

YXPlayer2 in the app store works perfectly and it's either free or $5.00.

Let's not forget WMV is a Microsoft proprietary movie format and not a problem with your iPad or Apple. Remember Real Player and the problems associated with those files.....just sayin'

I disagree that this isn't a problem Apple contributes too. Apple does not promote compatability with their competition. The end user experience suffers. For example, microUSB charger/port that works for Blackberry and Androids, no Apple support. Play wmv files on apple products--no. Ability to sync with iTunes to a music player other than Apple's--No. The user is left with having to search for third party apps to accomplish something that could easily be done by Apple. With cooperation and a more open philosopy, all our lives would be better.

It's not incorporating other products. It's being compatable with the rest of the world. Sharing makes the world go round and Apple is not good at playing in the sandbox. I'm able to share my Android charger with my girlfriend who has a Blackberry. Charges my phone just like the proprietary and new and different Apple charger for the iPhone 5 charges a phone. microUSB does everything Apple's multiple connectors do while being compatable with others. Plus it's smaller and more compact that the connector Apple has been using for years.

Personally I use the WMV Player HD now known as MoliPlayer HD. It plays WMV perfectly fine, and once installed if you can download the WMV files throuigh safari, or from an Email attachment, you can then use the "Open In" Menu to open it in MoliPlayer. Its free, and also has an FTP and Web interface for direct uploads to it through Wifi.

Its a pretty decent App all around.

As far As Apple's obligation to include support for media formats, I find it hard to think that every single device must immediately play every format out there, including proprietary formats like WMV. That's just silly, There's so many formats out there it would be impossible. the iPAd plays the more popular formats, but a properietary format like WMV is not sometihng they would want to provide for specially since it form their competition.
