4x6 borderless photos w/out cropping

Hello. I am wondering how to print 4x6's w/out cropping the photos? Cropping cuts off important aspects of some of my photos and I really need to be able to keep it all.

Is there anyway anyone knows of to fit it all in? I definitely don't want to end up with the two white lines that appear on either side when not cropping.

Thanks. Will

Hi will,
I am afraid you will not get a border less print without cropping.
When you take your photos make sure you take the photo with a little more than what you need in your photo to account for the cropping you need to do to get a border less print.
If you brought your film/card to get your images processed they will automatically crop the images to fit the correct 4x6 ratio for border less prints.

In your case, just print the entire image to a larger photo paper, something other than the 4x6 size.

Also, just curious, do you know:

Is the same true of regular 35mm cameras and its printing?

Is there a function in digital photography that allows one to take pictures according to the size of the paper one will eventually print from? Is this related to pixels? Seems I have set my camera to takes pics at a standard pixel format of w1944 x h2592. (assuming this is 5)

Does this preclude the size of the photo I am left with? ie, if I were to shoot at lower pixel number (say 3) would I end up with smaller pics? Thanks again.

Will,
If you print your photo on a larger photo paper you would get the whole print.
You would then have to do your own cutting around the photo to get the borderless print.
Digital cameras almost all take images in the 4:3 ration. some do allow you a choice like 2:3 for 4x6 prints. If you only take digital images then you would have to crop the image yourself before printing to a 4x6 paper because the ratio size is different unless you have a newer camera that gives you the 2:3 choice.
If you scanned images from a 35 mm camera or got a CD of images from a photo processing store of your 35mm images then no cropping is needed as they are the correct ratio to print 4x6 prints.

On the same line, a lot of online photo album/print sites now give you the option of getting 4:3 ratio prints from your digital camera which means there is no cropping done to your image. The entire image is printed.

When you shoot your image just make sure that you don't have anything important on the edge of your view. This is kind of hard to explain, but always get more in your view than what you need so you don't have to crop off anything important to get your 4x6 print.
If you shoot at a lower pixel number it would not change the ratio.

First crop the photo, and if it's still too large, "scale" the photo to any size you want using Graphic Converter. You can have the choice to scale the photo in pixels, inches, etc. For example, the photos I take with my Canon Rebel XT (RAW photos) are 8MB or more in size (to save it on the hard drive), and 48" x 32" printed. I only crop a photo to take something I don't want to included in the photo. But cropping a very large photo sometimes is not enough; that's when I "scale" the photo to lets say...3"x5", 6"x10", etc.

Ok, so cropping on some photos will work. Playing with the constrain feature in iPhoto it appears most of my photos would need to be larger than 5x7 in order to fit everything in 8x10 works for example. But for those that I want to include everything on and use a 4x6 it sounds like using graphic converter would help scale down my photos in order to do this.

I can't find graphic converter in iPhoto though? Does it exist or is this something I would need 3rd party software for?

THANKS.

Will,
Please read this article:

If you want to include all of the image from a digital 4:3 image in a 4 x6 print,
using Graphic Convertor to scale your image down is not going to give you the results you want. The ratio will still be wrong for a 4x6 print. The only way to print all your image on a 4x6 paper is to crop some of it off so the ration is 2:3/3:2 instead of 3:4/4:3. That is why I told you to just print the entire image on one piece of paper to get the whole image printed.
Also make sure when you take images, take more than you need in the photo so you will not have to crop off anything important to get 4x6 borderless prints from the image.
