Question

iphone crash during restore

I attempted a restore of my phone. Just when it looked like it was almost done, I got an error message, was told it didn't work and my phone essentially crashed. It is now locked in the screen with the USB and the itunes symbol. I've tried hard reset multiple times and it returns to the same screen. The phone is no longer recognized by itunes. I've tried 2 computers and 2 cables.

Any suggestions?

This is my only phone and I desperately need it.

Yeah, this has happened to me a few times.

First try to restore in DFU mode.
If that doesn't work reboot and try to restore DFU mode again.
If still a no go then download and reinstall iTunes, reboot and restore DFU mode.

What is the specific error?

I've been trying to get into DFU mode but it always returns to the screen of the USB and itunes symbol. And itunes just isn't even recognizing the phone at all. I've rebooted the computer a few times.

I unfortunately don't remember what the error message was specifically. It closed quickly and isn't back.

If I uninstall itunes, will all my data from my backup be lost? I just don't want to lose all my data/contacts/etc.

Don't uninstall iTunes just reinstall over it and you will have all your backed up stuff still there.

Also, if you are in the USB and itunes symbol loop it seems to be a little different on the timing than the usually way. Give me a minute and I'll see if I can reproduce it on my iPhone and I'll post what I did.

The combination of reinstalling iTunes and the correct button pressing has made things work. My iphone is now activated and I'm in the process of restoring from my backup.

OK, I held the lock button for 10 seconds,
then lock and home until the apple logo shut off,
then held the home until it goes into DFU.
