Hi, Francois.

Hopefully, 6+ years later, you've stumbled across the solution. I'm sure Apple will have redesigned the feature at some point but, currently, you can hide a purchase by right clicking in the area surrounding the open/install button (see image). Fingers crossed this sorts you out!

Cheers,

John.

François, you're completely normal in finding this behaviour in the Mac App Store purchases list annoying and problematic. If every free app you ever want to try (or potentially even paid ones you decided were rubbish) stays in the purchases list it will quickly become cluttered with useless apps you never want to see or hear of again, all begging to be downloaded again with a big "Install" button. It would make the process of downloading the ones you want on a new computer frustrating and slow as you have to sift through all the "junk" apps you tried because they were free or cheap.

I would have thought it obvious to include an option to manually delete apps you don't want to download again from that list.

or put another way... Why can't Apple do at least as well as Amazon Kindle for Mac/iphone/ipad???

Let us DELETE apps we really really never want to see again or ARCHIVE apps we feel we don't want to waste time scrolling over but may some day want to re-download.

The app store is a really GREAT concept but sorely needs to be responsive to this and a few other user unfriendly "features." Thank GOD they didn't just try to do yet another add-on to iTunes 🙂

I agree 100%. Sometimes we install really lame apps just to satisfy our curiosity about how lame they can actually be. At some point in the future when I want to actually make use of the "not in my library" purchased apps in order to actually find one and install it again I'd rather not have to look through a sea of garbage to find what I want. It's a no brainer that we should be able to delete out of there.

Hi, i presume you are talking about the APP STORE on a mac. If so, open the app store, go to STORE on the menu bar and click view my account. Enter your apple ID and Password and then go to the bottom where you will see a subsection called settings - along that will be manage user reviews and ratings. Click on Manage, see screen shot.

This is what you will see and then along the apps you dont need or have tested and decided it is not for you, click on the remove button under each tab on the right (in blue). See screen shot below. Once you click this wait 24hours before it is removed.

Hope that is helps you and others, share the love.

Just posted the following to Feedback at Apple:

I very much appreciate the new "Purchased" option enabling me to download past purchases directly to my device. BUT FOR GOD'S SAKE PLEASE PUT IN A "PERMANENTLY DELETE" OPTION!!! I downloaded free and/or purchased apps when I was drunk one day and are of dubious suitability for the rest of my family to see and/or are exceedingly embarrassing were I to have to explain. I deleted them off my iPhone and iPad and iMac BUT THEY KEEP APPEARING IN 'PURCHASED' at the iTunes Store. PLEASE! Install a PERMANENTLY DELETE option for 'Purchases'.
