Hi Guys

I really need help removing an item from my menu bar. It appeared today after I restarted my mac after my intego anti virus did an update. It is along the right hand side of the bar, near the time etc. and it looks like it is telling me what my speeds are when I go on the web. When I'm not on the web none of the numbers move it just has a Red 0B/s at the top and directly underneath there is a Green 0B/s with little arrows beside both. I'm sorry if I am giving a crap explanation of what it looks like but I haven't figured out how to put an image up on this forum yet.

I tried to command click and drag it out of the bar but it won't move, even when I click on it, it won't display any information about itself or anything. I tried looking at disk activity but could see anything out of the ordinary there. One thing that I am just after noticing while I write this is that my little Irish flag that use to be in the bar is gone I don't know if that is related to this or not, what I do know is that I never removed the flag and I didn't put this new icon up. I'm sorry if I didn't explain this to well but if you can make sense of anything I've posted here and can help in any way I would really appreciate it.

Thanks everyone.

I have the same exact issue. Intego did an update and now I have these extremely annoying speed icons for download (green) and upload (red). I have no idea how to get rid of them. Please help if anyone out there knows. I tried command click to drag it into trash but won't budge.

    Thanks.

In the meantime, one thing you could try is nuking

    home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist

(This file contains the preferences for the background process SystemUIServer, which controls the menubar extras, among other things.)

Can't you just get rid of the the same way you get rid of other menu extras? namely hold the command key and drag it off the menu bar?

No, because that does not work on "applications" that reside in the menu bar

Found a solution. Just go into preferences for VirusBarrier click on "Traffic" and under "Appearances" deselect "Display network traffic in menu bar." That'll make it disappear.

I just updated Virus Barrier too & had the exact same annoying menu bar item. Many thanks to all for the find & solution. I just removed it via the Preferences & Traffic as the other poster mentioned. Thanks Everyone!

Many thanks- not exactly obvious! I noticed this after the last Intego update but assumed other users in the house had somehow enabled the icon. Went through all system preferences to no avail. It is not helpd by the fact that Intego have not enabled any mouse over message or right-click on the icon!

Having just updated to VirusBarrier X6 10.6.8 (and rebooted) I too have this bar and want to get rid of it. Unfortunately, I don't have the menu option box that would enable me to get rid of it. Does anybody have any suggestions?
    Thanks

Wow - what a total PITA this was. Took over an hour to find this solution to the Intego "You really want a new and unidentified icon on your Menu Bar, don't you??" problem.

Thanks all for the help and persistence!
