Safari needs to save files WHERE I WANT THEM!

3. Improve PDF handling so that when the Save icon (or save option from the File menu is selected), it also prompts you for name, location and file type. It's crazy that I'm reading a PDF directly in Safari but if I want to save it my only options are to a) download it to the Downloads folder with whatever name the website gave it, which is always completely useless, or b) save it as WebArchive format. Why can't I just save it as a PDF??

I'm not new to macs and he's correct about the glitch. In Preferences, you can save anything to anywhere with settings, but if you print to pdf, the file goes to some folder you used years ago and there appears to be nowhere to change that settings. Safari never remembers subsequent "print to pdf" file locations and the setting is hidden.

If I go to Command-P to print, then PDF, Safe as PDF I get the save dialogue box.

It has a Save As box where I can rename the file, and it remembers that last place I saved it to.

Hit the littl triangl next to the box, and VOILA! you can select different directories.

No glitch.

You people just lazy, look and options are there. File/Save-As, hit the triangle to find the directory.

Change your downloads folder in your safari preferences, it's on the first page!

It's not a matter of being lazy. If I want to print to pdf (rather than file, save as) and Safari brings up the file/location box but does not show my default folder already set in prefernences, this is not consistent. If I want inconsistent, I can run Windows.

Coozoe did you ever find a solution to this? I am having the same problem and it's really really irritating. (I don't understand why others on this thread find the need to be rude, especially when they have not understood the issue....I am a long time mac user and have not been able to find a solution).

I agree. This makes me CRAZY and makes me not want to use Safari. I need to be able to save things WHERE I WANT TO.

Changing the preference to save things to the Desktop helps me nought. The save location is dependent on the purpose of the file. A configuration properties file goes in /etc. A shell script goes in /bin. (not that I am naive enough to download either from the wild internet, but I might from an intranet).

Again and again, Apple ignores the power user in favor of the grandma who just started using a computer and wants simplicity.

Get it together Apple. You can support both. It is a matter of configuration.

Otherwise, I will be booting a Linux distro on my new Man Book Air shortly.

I barely ever use Safari...for many reasons.

This should be a no-brainer. I don't want to save a file in the same place everytime I download, or have to change the settings for each download. We should be prompted for the save location each time.

Sigh...back to Firefox.

Open your pd file in the Safari Browser. Move your cursor over the upper right corner on the "Display a menu for the current page" button (looks like a page whose upper right corner is folded) which is next to the Settings button (the flower like button). Click on it. The option above the last option of Print is "Save as". Just click on this "Save as" button and save the file to a desired location!

Example: I want to save a pdf file from this location: http://ece.gmu.edu/~qli/ECE431/ch_02_fabrication.pdf

I open this file in Safari. Go to "Display a menu for the current page" and select the "Save as" option. Then I save it to a folder in D drive with another name directly.
