I had this problem for the last 2 days and it was driving me nuts !! Making sure I had the correct date & time will fix the issue (or at least it did for me). Thank you Rush35 & moneydick !

got respond from seesmic:
"...go to the time / time zone /date settings on your computer and make sure GMT is set correctly? Please, make sure that the Internet Time is correctly set too - time.windows.com.."

Know it's an old thread; But this worked for me after I went on vacation and forgot that I had changed the time, date etc. manually.

This has nothing to do with the Time Zone... Delete your preferences and restart twitter and all should be fine.
Well it did for me and many others as you can see.
I only had to set my timezone correctly after being on vacation. No need to delete the cache etc.
I can't speak for what worked for others, but deleting preferences was the only thing that worked for me.
My time was already correct - syncing automatically to time.apple.com
My best advice, if one doesn't work for you, try the other.

Hi everyone, I'm having the same issue. What do you mean by deleting preferences? Which preferences? The only data I can add is my username and password, I haven't saved any preferences into the app. Please help me out.
I deleted the following preferences:
com.twitter.twitter-mac.plist
com.twitter.twitter-mac.plist.lockfile
Located in folder:
~/Library/Preferences
To access this folder directly, open your Finder, click "Go" from the dropwdown, select "Go To Folder..." and then enter the location listed above - you will find those files in there.
This worked for me, your results may vary.

Thanks for the quick response. I deleted this preference:
com.twitter.twitter-mac.plist, the other one that ends with .lockfile I couldn't find it. After deleting the preference, tried to log in to the app, but still says unauthorized, bummer. Perhaps tweetie for mac works better, weird 'cause I've always used twitter for mac and just recently it started to malfunction 😟
