iWeb's not going away is it?

I have my work portfolio on iWeb, and a few other sites and am about to start another site, and wanted to check something:

I read somewhere about there not being recent updates for iWeb, and wanted to make sure that nothing drastic is changing, basically that iWeb is still going strong and will be around for a good long time.

Anybody know the current iWeb story? Thanks.

No one seems to know yet. At this current moment what you see is what you get. There are a lot of very disappointed iweb users out there though. We can all hope there is a refresh coming down the pipeline soon.

Meaning we don't know if iWeb could be actually going away? Which would mean my sites might be taken down/no longer hosted through apple/my account with MobileMe etc?

If Iweb is never going to be updated, you will still be able to use the latest version for ever (almost).
As for Mobileme to stop hosting, yes Apple could decide to not provide hosting of your Iweb creation at any moment (or they can keep this feature for ever if they choose to).
You will still have the possibility to host with a third party hosting company if you wish.

Thanks Thierry. Do you know if that should happen, will I be able have my sites hosted with another web hosting company using the iWeb files as they currently exist? Or might they have to be reconstructed from scratch, or adapted somehow?

You just change where and how they are hosted. You will not have to recreate your sites again.

A7 is right, choose a hosting company (a lot of people here say good things about HostExcellence and GoDaddy), use a ftp upload tool (one of the most favorite is CyberDuck) and upload your IWeb created website to your hosting. No need to recreate everything.

I will throw this in as a bit of advice (personal experience). Be sure to back up your computer regularly when you are using iweb. If you loose your HD you WILL have to start over. There is no getting back Iweb files unless you have a backup.

Question for you, does Time Machine backup the IWeb site file that gets updated everytime you make a change into Iweb?

Thanks again Thierry. Forgive my ignorance but, all the files which are used to work on, edit etc my site are house on my mac, right? If I switch to another host, will they still be editable with the iWeb program? Should I start to think about transitioning to a different web creation program? Is such a thing possible?

Yes, they are located on your computer and yes once you change the way its hosted you can still edit like you normally would, nothing really changes except the way the file is hosted, you can edit, delete, add like you could before. I would stick with iweb (just my opinion). I think if you switch to another program you will be starting over. (not 100% positive though).

I don't know of any (doesn't mean they don't exist though). I like iweb the best personally, Even though it might not be updated again, I will probably stick with it.
