iTunes can't find Aperture Library for iPad sync

I just upgraded from iPhoto '11 to Aperture 3. When trying to sync my iPad, and telling iTunes to now sync photos from Aperture, I get the following message:

"Your Aperture Library could not be found. Open the preferences window in Aperture and enable the preference to share previews with other applications."

All well and good, but when I go to the preference pane in Aperture, I do not see the referenced option. Under the "Previews" tab (Aperture > Preferences > Previews) I see the options for "Share previews with iLife and iWork" (Always/When quitting Aperture/Never)--is that the preference indication they mean? None of those options results in iTunes being able to see my Aperture library.

Oddly, Aperture can see and import photos on my iPad that are not already in my Library, but claims it cannot send photos in the other direction because the library can't be seen. Frustrating

I found a solution that works for me.

While holding down the <Option> key, start Aperture. It will bring up a dialog box asking which library/location you want to use. I selected the one I'd been using all along, and lo and behold, now the photos will sync in iTunes. I had to reprocess my library for some, but at least now it can find my library. Hope this works for others.

Cheers

I happened to have another library at the same location but with a different name. So I opened up that smaller one, made sure it showed up in itunes and would let me sync its photos. Then I switched back to the other one and now it works.

On a side note, I'm having "permissions'-like" issues with creating a vault for aperture and adding it to another HD bay that I have in my mac pro. I hope that's not a related issue, but I'll post that in the aperture discussion board.

None of these solutions worked for me. I deleted the plist. Created a blank new library. I have repaired my library a thousand times. I'm using the iPhoto library... could that be the problem?

iTunes won't find my iPhoto library to share either. This might be the most frustrating issue I've had with Apple in recent years. I upgraded to Aperture and it broke stuff.

I just want to be able to look at my pictures on my Apple TV. I had it working about a week ago after messing with stuff... and now it stopped again. I don't know why.

Grrrrr...

Hey Zaimejs,

I have like you tried all of the above. After playing and reading lots of discussions, I've found tthet the thing with iTunes is that you have to create a library on Apreture, in order for it to "see" it. What i eventually ended up doing was creating a "blank" (empty) Library on Aperture and importing my original iPhoto Library, from inside Aperture to it. It worked perfectly. Now I am in the processs of importing my other Lybraries. The thing with all that is you'll end up with double libraries, BUT for what I've have experienced, since I am planning to no longer use iPhoto, I will move the iPhoto Libraries to a back-up external drive and keep them there for the time being. For what I've experienced, so far, iPhoto can navigate as well on Aperture Libraries. One thing though once you have added photos on Aperture, you cannot delete them or projects on iPhoto and vice-versa. You can only do it on the App you have included the photos on. And for that matter it does not seem to be a problem, since the App will tell you if the photo needs to be deleted on the other one or not, so you can just switch apps and DONE!

I hope this helps you, as it did for me!

BR,

Tom
