Just Updated New Epson Drivers (2011 01 13 - Software Update) - Error >HELP

Epson Perfection 3490 Photo scanner

Just updated the new Epson drives from Software Update today. Was able to scan before (6 days ago exact).

Now whenever I try to scan (the overview preview) generates an error seconds later:

*"Scanner Reported an Error"*
"An error occurred during scanning."

Tried everything...
• Using Preview.app
• tried hiding details
• changing save locations
• downloading official drivers from Epson website (ICA Scanner Driver v5.3.0 for Image Capture
Macintosh OS X (v10.6 - 10.6.x))
• unpluging then repluging all the connections

Nothing worked!

If anyone can help… I would greatly appreciate it!

I contacted Epson on a previous driver update and was told the following:

As long as your Epson works as it should, there is no need to install new drivers.

Now, I would suggest you contact Epson via their support site and detail your problem. They are usually very good at replying promptly. They will mostly likely give you instructions to uninstall and reinstall the drivers.

For everyone's information: Apple does not make drivers for third party hardware; the manufacturers supply the drivers and Apple simply makes them available. So, there is nothing for Apple to fix here - Epson will need to come up with a fix.

As long as my Epson works as it should, I do not automatically download or install driver updates - there is no need to do that.

I had the EXACT same problem and I couldn't get any of the drivers for 10.6 to work on my Epson CX5800F so I used the 10.5 + drivers (specifically Epson TWAIN Driver and EPSON Scan Utility v3.02A and Epson EasyPrint v3.10) and after restarting/unplugging/etc I can finally scan and print.

I couldn't find the 3.07A driver that Syd mentioned. I did see an uninstaller in the drivers section as well. Good luck!

I am having the same problem with my Epson scanner. I emailed Epson who told me how to re-install Epson Scan which I have not used since it crashed my OS years ago.

I believe the following file is at fault:
HD - Library - Image Capture - Devices - EPSON Scanner

It is currently version 5.3.1 but, according to my Time Machine backup, it was version 5.2.5 before the update. I tried restoring the file from Time Machine but it restores the file as a folder rather than an application which is what OS X says it should be (both in the library and in Time Machine).

1. What is going on with Time Machine? What good is it if it can't restore files properly?
2. Is it possible to re-install the subject file from my Install Disk?
2. Can someone provide a copy of the v5.2.5 file?

Thanks

Although I still wonder about why Time Machine can't restore a file properly, I did resolve the problem.

Although I had previously downloaded the:
CA Scanner Driver v5.3.0 for Image Capture
installer from Epson's website and ran the installer it did not correct the problem - probably because it found the same file version which had been installed by Apple Software Update so didn't install the file.

This time I deleted the old file before running the installer and the new file works properly with Image Capture. My guess is the file which Apple Software Update provided is corrupted.

So what worked for me is:
Download from Epson: CA Scanner Driver v5.3.0 for Image Capture
Delete: HD - Library - Image Capture - Devices - EPSON Scanner
Run the installer.
