Cleaning MacBook screen

I haven't found a way to clean the screen on my late 2008 black MacBook that doesn't leave streaks. As I recall, my first attempt was with a damp cloth. Recently I bought a Staples product called "Monitor Wipes" -- paper tissues saturated with a cleaning solution of some kind. The cleaning fluid is not identified, though it does say it's not alcohol.

Any suggestions for a better, non-streaking way to clean my screen would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.6), 2.4 GHz, 2 GB SDRAM, 233 GB HD

Using a microfiber cloth will prevent little bits of the towel from being left behind on the screen. Personally, I don't mind a speck or two on my screen, but to each their own!

Thanks again, Lyssa. I'll give that a try, too. Perhaps when I get rid of the streaks from my earlier cleaning attempts it won't be as much a problem in the future.

Here's the process I follow & I don't have any streaking issues. I'm just using tap water, also.

1) Moisten a part of a paper towel. Wipe the entire screen.
2) Follow with a dry piece of paper towel, moving across the screen with a circular motion. The circular motion does a fairly good job of keeping streaks away. Also, don't press down on the screen--a lighter touch is better.

Good luck!

Thanks, Lyssa. Low tech appeals.

I tried Lyssa's first suggestion -- using a paper towel dampened with water and then following up with another towel using a circular motion. It worked. My screen is clean.

I don't have a microfiber cloth, but plan to give that a try, too. And I will shut my computer down before I clean in the future.

While I'm at it, I use canned air to keep my keyboard from collecting dust and other things that tend to get caught between the keys and the case.

I have experience with the Staples "Monitor Wipes" product and while it works great on matte displays like the old generation Cinema, I found it does streak with glossy screens in general.

I can't attest to microfiber, though I assume it's like a regular cloth or clothing item only less likely to cause scratches.

Personally, I just cleaned my whole laptop moments ago using a twice over with a very wrung out, slightly damp paper towel, and then wiped the screen etc. with some force using a dry paper towel. Screen looks unmarked and clear.

+1 for paper towel method.
