Dude! You My friend are the MAN!!!! Worked like a charm and made me look like a king. Great advise. Do you think this will be an ongoing issue?
This happened to my one of friend. Thanks Suzu it worked!🙂
This was awesome! It worked! Traveling home from out of town and screen went black. Was dreading taking it to IT at work...would have been weeks before getting it back. Thanks!!!
Oh Wow, I was seriously freaking out. This was a life saver. The Home Key and Sleep Key (as if you were taking a screen shot) for more than 10 seconds will do a force restart!!
Thanks so much!!
😍
Just a note - I also have this same issue from time to time. My screen would go black, although I could hear commands when I hit the home button. It turns out that the IPAD somehow goes into voice over mode. Unfortunately in this mode you can't see the screen and it doesn't react to touch. However, you can still hold the home button and ask Siri to "turn off voice over" and whoala the screen is back. I hope this helps some of you. TR Florida
This is a good suggestion assuming that you have Siri. Sounds like it worked in that situation however this problem more commonly occurs in iPads that predate iOS 6.
Suzu! Thanks for the hint about holding down the start and the home buttons. It worked!
Yep, solved my problem, qudos
Thanks heaps suzu!!! Worked for me too 😀
Im glad I helped a lot of people out,

thanks suzu! i was already in panic
OMG, It worked for me too!! My iPad went black and wouldn't start. I took it to the apple store and all they could offer was a replacement for 240€. I then found this thread and tried banging the iPad on my thigh, and then it worked!! BIG THANK YOU!
It worked for me now, thanks for the inputs. I hope this black out isn't going to repeat again.
Hi Suzu
I had this same problem today. And similar situation as the OP. My wife was using it and an App hung mid-way. She closed the flap and put the iPad away. When I opened the flap, I saw the black screen, and presuming battery was drained, put it for charging. An hour later, screen is still blank. Tried pressed various buttons, no luck. Got scared that the iPad is spoilt and will have to go to an Apple store. Randomly searched here for similar issue and was surprised this is a common thing to happen. I read various suggestions and tried yours, pressing the power and home buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds. Voila, my iPad is live and working now:)
Worked perfectly. You rock!
